As for the collet and nut, I can assure you they are not standard. But depending on who made that motor they should be readily available. Collets are relatively expensive,$30 up. Nuts are less costly but still not cheap. Well worth it for a nice save!
September 1, 20241 yr As the song says, "If it wasn't for bad luck.....I wouldn't have no luck at all." So I had this brainstorm on how to make a couple of DIY sanding spindles with dust collector, well not sure you could call it a brainstorm...more like a braingust. Today I set up my new spindle sander contraption next to my DIY disk sander I made a couple of years ago out of an old Black & Decker drill to start on a little project I have been putting off for awhile. And wouldn't you know it ...... three quarters of the way through the project my 40+ year old Black & Decker drill gave up the ghost. Who'd a thunk it?

Collets are integral to the nut on those - at least on mine - so should be just the one part and fairly easy to find. They made one for 1/4" and another 1/2", mine came with both. You can always use the 1/2" one with a reducer bushing, my first plunge router was a second hand Makita that only had the 1/2" so I've used the bushings a lot. I've gotten PC parts at ereplacementparts.com Great score on the router table, sure did clean up nice!
September 1, 20241 yr Popular Post just wrapped this up, installed hardware and passed final inspection. quarter sawn white oak, about 7-1/2 x 6-1/2 x 7 high (overall, lid is 2"). gift for a dear friend who wanted a nice, somewhat plain, box for her later ashes. 2 coats of spar urethane, no stain (she liked the lighter end of the color spectrum). as you wish.

You've made a major score; conservatively if you could find one new $1000 excluding the router motor. Care to divulge any of your trade secrets for removing all the rust on the table.
September 2, 20241 yr Popular Post No trick, I scraped it with a stiff putty knife, then a wire brush. This one was bad enough I started with an 80-grit disk on my ROS to get all the rust off. On this one I also sprayed the top with PB Baster after my first test with just the 80-grit, then 3 disks of 120 (which is where I start most of the time) to get most of the scratches out, 150, 220, 320, and finished it off with Johnson paste wax. I still need to finish working on the miter gauge slot. I tried a rotary brush but still a lot of rust in it. The Lift mechanism takes a lot of effort. I've sprayed everything with the PB Blaster and applied Never Seez to the 4 posts. I didn't get to work on it today, I'll see if things loosen up tomorrow
September 2, 20241 yr Popular Post Got the old desk unit in the kitchen out and the oak unit from phyl's sewingroom/office installed. A two full day job. Got lucky. The old desk top was exactly the length of the one I built for the sewing room. Just needed to rip it to width. Still needs some trim work on the top where the one end was against the wall. Got a new phone, a Jitterbug. Haven't tried out the camera yet. When I get it all figured out, I'll post pics. Edited September 2, 20241 yr by Gene Howe
