Hey guys I know its been a couple weeks since I've really posted on much.  How ever I did order my CBN wheels from Wood Turners Wonders.  Still waiting on my 180 grit CBN wheel to get shipped out.  How ever On that note I've been very very busy destroying scammers I do have audio cuts of that which is NOT family friendly so I cant share those on the main page but if youd like to listen to some of them please feel free to private message me.  On the second note.  I've been re arranging my work space entirely.

I managed to find ONE Delta Midi Lathe Stand LEFT.  So I wound up paying hefty for it.  Bought that stand and extension for it and threw it together in the house pretty light weight yet movable.  It also sets at the right height for myself it will be much much much easier to work around than having the lathe directly mounted at a 90 degree to the wall and on a bench.   You don't have much move around room to work with.  The only things I got left for that is to basically bolt it down to the concrete. 

Yes I do have 1/4 inch wedge bolts.  I figure 2 wedge bolts per stand leg side should do the trick.  I've also built another work bench and basically demolished the work bench that I had the wood lathe sitting on.  I am all about using the previous material for new projects instead of throwing the old stuff out as waste especially if its still in good use condition.  I am also placing up some junk wood up on the walls so I don't have to deal with getting turning shavings into the areas in between the wall studs.  That and doing IT work on phones has kept me pretty busy. Here are some photos.

Fyi my work space is a bit on the cluttery side at the moment but been getting rid of a lot of stuff and getting stuff organized.  That is why I also haven't been doing much turning yet.

Just a little bit.

So the Delta Midi Lathe stand is a heck of a lot sturdier than I had planned for.  That of course I don't lean into the stand and put too much weight into it.   But even with that I did a push over test and all it wanted to do was a wobble.  So if it decides to fall over while I'm turning on the lathe then I've done something HORRIBLY WRONG.  Not only that not having it fully bolted into concrete  is going to make it so so so much easier to clean up all the danged wood shavings.

I have the same lathe w/o the extension. I put two 25# barbell weights on it and calmed it down considerably .

2 25 pound barbell weights you say I'll have to pick up a couple of them.

With other little new additions going on to my extremely small work area I'm gonna have to get some more of these....  I mean 40 bucks on amazon or as I would say scamazon but yea not too shabby gonna have to get a couple more for the spindle tools

I think I'm actually going to return the vevor band saw and save up to get a decent one If my wen still works I'll continue to use that

that is an interesting take  I may stop using the band saws for cutting blanks.  Mainly I wanted one for other stuff as well but yea.  Wound up getting the Rikon 10 inch the Vevor is going back to the store DO NOT BUY it its a hunk of junk.   Not only that the blade dulls very very quickly does not stay straight when cutting at straight edges.  In the mean time though I think in learning the gouges again since I've aquired quite a few and finding out that Carter and Sons in Seattle it will be a fast order for ordering more tools.  But on that small note yea @lew I think I wont be using the band saw unless I'm doing laminated projects.  I only have a dinky ryobi chop saw only 8 inches at the moment and that's it.  Got rid of the table saw since i didn't even use it.  I don't think I've actually turned green wood fully yet I've started but not finished.  But I think once I learn the traditional tools well enough I think I should be good on that feature.

Got both my CBN wheels from wood turners wonders over all 300 bucks on wheels washers and the other lil washers that make it run true.  Hope its worth it and I get the long lasting life out of them.  Was a pain in the butt to take out the old aluminum oxide wheels but yea got it done.  Just hope I got the wheels secure enough.  I do have the guards off currently but I will be putting those back on.  I don't trust the bench grinder enough just yet.  Also got my wolverine jig finally.  Still gotta get that set up and finally completely lock the bench grinder down to the bench.  Slowly but surely.  Luckily for me I have a couple of bowl blanks sitting here waiting ready to be turned.

I'm on the fence at this point I can get a pretty good deal on it but I've been in consideration of getting the Jet 16 inch by  40 inch evs lathe.  I've had my delta for a few years now might be time to upgrade finally so I can make larger bowls than what I've been making.

how difficult is it to move it around cause Id have to put it together outside and then bring it inside?

Assembled weight is about 440 pounds! My shop is in the basement with no direct access from outside. It comes mostly unassembled and I managed to get the legs, bed and tailstock down the steps but when it came to the headstock/motor I had to rent an appliance bag wagon because of the weight and bulk. When I assembled the machine, I needed to make a stepped platform so I could lift the headstock about a foot at a time to get it on the lathe bed. I was in my mid 70's at the time and not as muscular as in my youth. I definitely recommend at least one other helper when it arrives.

I have the Rikon 70-1824 and love it. It's about the same money as the Jet. You can buy a bed extension for $200 to make it an 18x40. 

Better to have too much help than not enough. Had a call from a past club member who got a bargain on a PM3520B. Tried to move it into shop assembled with a teen helper. These machines are very top heavy, it tipped , hit side of trailer and broke the VFD housing and probably the VFD.

               2. Better to move heavy lathe in parts and not take the risk to self , helpers , and the machine.
