August 25, 20241 yr Author Nice yea I've actually made the decision to hold off on buying the new lathe currently until I can fully dive into learning the traditional tools Id figure the way that works is easier on a smaller machine. Especially since that is already set up and just ready to go. Oddly enough I did put the cbn wheels on the grinder though they seem to run a bit on the wobbly side for some odd reason. Yes I also put on those things that say make it run true.
August 26, 20241 yr Author Popular Post So I tested out the bench grinder. Works just fine. I managed to get a first successful sharpening on it. Worked perfectly using the 180 grit wheel. Didn't realize some of the screws were a little too loose on the blank so had to pull it off and re mount the face plate. It was for say getting a little wobbly. still a tad bit on edge with the grinder but I guess I'll eventually over come that one. I also ordered a set of carter and sons bowl gouge set. Figured hey spend the cash while I'm able to do so and if I have it on hand. Wasnt cheap but hopefully worth it. I will still be practicing the grinding on my hurricane steel tools. I must say the sharpie method worked EXTREMELY well.
August 27, 20241 yr Author HOT dang I think I almost got the shaping worked out. I'm pretty sure I've got a 55 degree swept back on this one. If not almost.
August 27, 20241 yr Almost is literally close enough. I shaped my 55 degree Irish grind gouges a year ago. I haven't checked the angle since then. I should do that. Anyway, the point is that a few degrees either direction won't make much of a difference.
