July 15, 20241 yr Popular Post Hey guys LONG TIME NO TALK..... I know I've been away for quite some time, but I've been slowly getting back into the mix of the wood turning. I kind of took a break from it getting frustrated since I wasnt quite getting the results that I was looking for. Then real life stuff started happening bathroom had a major leak had to deal with that and other things. Then completely did an ENTIRE clean out of the shop area nope didn't get rid of a lot of my lathe stuff. I'm just now starting to buy good gouges going to try and learn how to use traditional tools this go around didn't have much luck with them the first go around. Yes still messing with scammers SO MUCH FUN doing that as well. But I have been doing some turning and I'm finding that yes even though the Easy Wood Tools are great I'm not getting the exact results that I want. For the start I've also just ordered a couple of the Ashley Harwood bowl gouges I bought a cheapo 40 dollar gouge to try and learn how to sharpen on so I don't screw up the expensive gouges. I also have my Wolverine Sharpening system should be here today 6 inch dewalt bench grinder and now yes a CBN wheel that I need to put on but I'm waiting for the sharpening system to arrive before I put that on. Also picked up a couple of the raptor gauges for the degree angles but still on the wait for those. Now I'm just trying to source out a good lumber source in my area that's close but that is turning out to be painful. They are either too far out of the way to get to by car or just don't have what I need so now been going down the rabbit hole of finding those. Hope all is well here on the forums sorry I've been away quite some time but yes I've been getting back into turning. Its been nice getting out there after a long morning of dealing with dumb scammers on the phone all morning. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
July 15, 20241 yr Popular Post Welcome back, Andrew. Wish i could help with the turning stuff but I'm just an aspiring turner as well. That's OK, there's some really smart guys here to help, both with the turning and if you ever go back to flatwork there's some smart guys om that as well.

The set up should be quite simple hopefully not sure how well it will work on a dewalt 6 inch grinder. But either way should be interesting to deal with. Its been so long since I've posted photos on a forum lol we shall see what can be done. Also been so long since I've used my lathe that I got a very thin layer of rust on the bed. ooooof it was easy to take care of and clean off with a bit of sanding and sanding on the bottom of the banjo and clean.

July 16, 20241 yr Popular Post Welcome back. I know you have not asked any questions yet but I will offer one bit of advise. You really should have an 8 inch grinder. It makes a shallower hollow grind and the 6 inch wheels are sometimes hard to find in CBN.
July 16, 20241 yr Author Popular Post @Gerald Yes I figured I would or should have been aware of that. So the 6 inch dewalt I tested it and height wise and what not not gonna work. I thought the 8 inch wen grinder that I've had for ages wasnt working how ever plugged it in and tested it still runs like a beast. So I'm going to return the dewalt 6 inch and the 6 inch CBN wheel and just opt to get a single CBN wheel for the wen. I did realise that the stone wheels got damaged some how during the shed clean out so I ripped them both off either way not gonna run the grinder with damaged wheels at the risk of a wheel blow up. NOT NO WAY not no how. So will be using that set up instead go figure amazon running late with my sharpening system stuff danged amazon.
July 16, 20241 yr Hey, welcome home Andrew. Glad you made it back. Sorry to hear about the life challenges, but thankful you've been able to persevere. I'm no help in the turning arena but we've got some of the best here; knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and just plain good folks. Looking forward to seeing and hearing what your doing.
July 16, 20241 yr Author Just got done placing an order for a 180 grit and 80 grit CBN wheel at least those should be a heck of a lot better than aluminum oxide wheels. those things arent cheap but hopefully I will get plenty of use out of them. Next thing is learn how to sharpen gouges. Edited July 16, 20241 yr by AndrewB

Several on sharpening. https://vimeo.com/woodturning Also, check out Richard Raffan's YouTube channel for sharpening- https://www.youtube.com/@RichardRaffanwoodturning/search?query=sharpening
July 16, 20241 yr Author I've been watching sharpening videos how toos like crazy. I also caught Kent "Turn A Wood Bowl" on his sharpening still tryin to figure out how he did that 55 degree swept back. Seems like a decent profile.

July 16, 20241 yr Author Then its gonna be complete and utter chaos when I start learning how to use the tools on the work piece lol that might be some what of a disaster thats why I'm also purchasing cheaper tools in between the expensive ones in case I have a massive oh no.
July 16, 20241 yr Hey great to see ya around here again Andrew! Thought of you often, and was hoping all was well. Stick around man and we'll help get you back in the groove! Thanks for coming back!

Stick around man and we'll help get you back in the groove! Thanks for coming back! I'm doing okay John just had a lot of real life stuff going on. Then heavy duty dived into the scambaiting world learning all sorts of fun tech stuff. I know how to build phone systems now in no time flat lol. Been enjoying it getting to mess with scammers all morning. Also lot of real life stuff had bathroom leak and yea it was just bad. But other than that I can't complain doing pretty good aside from the heat. I just got a new 10 inch bandsaw today too so gotta do a home depot run and get the stuff to build a small bench for it. The stand that came with it was completely garbage dont even know why they include them.
July 17, 20241 yr Author Popular Post I mean it looks dinky but the bench holds up its simple and its locked into the studs. So once I bolt the saw down in place that thing aint goin anywhere when it is bolted in and operating. I've still gotta finish throwing together the saw but yea its been hot.
July 17, 20241 yr Author Popular Post New bandsaw finally fully put together and bolted down to the little bench. That thing isnt going anywhere. If you buy a vevor Bandsaw wouldn't recommend using the stand that comes with it the stand is just complete garbage. Better off to build your own.
