My daughter was given a large shopping bag full of drums for a drum or spindle sander, thought I could use them.  This bag has everything from 1"x2" to 3"x3" all from Klingspor.  I do not have a spingle/drum sander (not at this point).  I am not familiar with them, do they have interchangeable drums?  can you get drums to fit on a router?  Educate me.

better understanding of what I am describing

Spindle sanders have interchangeable drums, but generally speaking drum sanders do not. The size of those drums you have make me think they fit a drill press spindle or something like that.

In addition you cannot sand with a router. In addition to what Fred said oscillating spindle sanders usually have several different size drums which may vary in diameter from one manufacturer to another ,

Thanks gentlemen.  Following up on your info I am beginning to think these sanding drums are for an Oscillating spindle sander.  Don't have one, never used one but after researching, I believe there might just be one in my future.  After all, when opportunity presents its self....Also, forgot to ask, is Klingspor products of good quality?

Yes they are.  Sanding sleeves have glued seams.  You may experience failure if the sleeves are very old.

Most of the drum sanders come with them included, I'm not sure you'll find an advantage to having the ones you have.

Can you post up a pic of what you have?

I meant most of the spindle sanders come with a set of sleeves.

Just a heads up.  Most oscillating spindle sanders use a 4 1/2" long sanding sleeve.  I imagine the 3" could be used but not sure with the up and down travel.

There are 5 bags of the 3'x3', 2"x2" and 5 of the 1"x2" plus assorted.  I am guessing that the drums and parts fit an oscillating sander.  Talking with daughter, the lady and sold all the tools and then found these in a box so she gave them away.  Sure wish I had been at the sale.

Most definitely, now ya gotta get one! :)

They sure look a little short for an spindle sander I've seen. Like Dan said, most of them (the benchtop models) use 4 1/2" sleeves. My guess is this is for more of a drill press arrangement, they use the shorter drums. That's quite a pile you have, hope you come up with a use for all of it.

I am agreeing with Fred for the reason stated.  You could get the Harbor Freight (Go H-F!) set and be in business.  Not sure what size those belts are.

Some of these sleeves will work with my drill press, others I can cut and use with my dremel's.  others will require spindles.  Harbor Freight has the Sander but only 1/5 hp, Lowes and HD have one with 1/2 hp.  Now to hit the CFO for an early birthday present.  Thanks again for all the info.  Check the break room for Donuts.

I have the Rigid sander and I believe a lot of the others do too.

Do you like this sander Dan?  There is one up at the local HD & Lowe's outlet that I've seen and thought about getting it for my daughter.  It may have been a display model for it is coated with dust (not sawdust).

I've owned one for several years. A right handy sander.

Have had it for years and love it.  It quit on me once.  Blew it out with compressed air and it has been running since.

Plus one on those comments and like Dan mine did quit once but the cleanout worked.
