May 14, 20242 yr Popular Post We have a group of friends that has been meeting for quite a few years on Tuesday. We call the group Turning Tuesday. One of the older friends is more of a chip carver than a turner. He likes the boxes I have been making lately and asked me if I could make one out of basswood so he can chip carve it. The lid is Purple Heart because that is what he wanted. Here is the box, 8” tall and 5” in diameter. I can’t wait to see what he carves on it.

May 14, 20242 yr Very nice and it has a warm color too.. I have a Basswood tree in the backyard. I just used it to turn some mushrooms and gnome homes in December. I used dead fall branches and the bark stuck like glue to everyone of them. Thought you might like want to know that.

May 15, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Here is the second one. This one will be for my wife so I flocked the inside.
May 16, 20242 yr As to photo color as long as no change in camera settings then it is the lighting. Cameras and yes that includes phones allow you to set the sensors to compensate for different lighting conditions and sources. That said a incandescent bulb will impart a warm color (more reddish), Fluorescent will add a greenish tint. So look at the bulbs used in areas where you take photos. By the way nice box.

The dark photo was taken on the kitchen counter. The lights are LED flood lights. The lighter picture is in the shop with LED strip lights. Both taken with my IPhone.
June 4, 20241 yr Author Popular Post My friend finished the two boxes. I just need to put a finish on mine. Mine is the one with the roses.
June 22, 20241 yr Still catching up. Those are amazing Rusty. What a great collaboration of talents as well as what a great friend. What finish(es) did you apply?

What finish(es) did you apply? I haven’t started the finish yet. Been tossing it around and finally decided on Waterlox. I like it better than Arm R Seal because it is just a little shinier than satin finish. I will post pictures when I get the finis h done.
