Friday January 12th, 2024-Whats on Your Weekend Agenda?

Friday again Folks! :D

:ChinScratch: Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're getting ready for an incoming storm that they have now updated the total snowfall to 7-12" of "Wet Heavy Snow", which will be followed by a few days of single digit temperatures. <_<

:ChinScratch: That just might give me enough time between shoveling to take a look through some books that I got from Bruce last evening. He's putting out boxes of books he found "Curb Shopping" and ran across these bound copies of the Deltagrams that are reprints of the Deltagrams from Volume 1 through 18 starting with January 1932 and ending with Issue No.6, 1948, 49.  I'll be going back this morning to see what else he may have found in that box. ;)

:o Just realized I have to call my brother to wish him a Happy Birthday!

:ChinScratch: That's about it for here, What's on Your weekend Agenda?

I can't help but think that there is someone, somewhere, that is just happy as all get out that those books have found their way to you Larry.  Heckuva score

Tuesday was quite the weather event when that front motored through the Peach State.  Bunch of limbs down, including a few bits & pieces that "would have" likely messed up the paint on both the car and truck had they not been moved down the driveway.  We are expecting a similar version today beginning around 10 AM so my first order of business is to get outside and take the flags & windchimes down again...  Balance of today is TBD.

We are expecting company this weekend, daughter and BF may come in and they want to get some hands on building a cabinet carcass.  Great, we have two cabinets to do and most of the supplies on hand to do them.  And depending upon the results of today's weather event, likely have a bunch of sticks and such to pick up in the yard...

Yea, it's kind of cool seeing how they did things with these machines 90 years ago!

Makes me wonder if the previous owner of the books had a shop, and what machines they may have had. :DayDreaming:

It appears books one and two have the most information pertaining to my old machines. ;)

Not sure what the weekend holds for me. I'll get my federal taxes ready to mail and may get a few minutes in the shop but that's all I have planned.

Woodworking club meeting Saturday AM.  Bob Lang (formerly from PopWood) is doing a presentation on arts & crafts furniture.  Hopefully, bad weather will hold off.

If you only could have seen the look on my face when I saw them. :o

Bruce didn't know what they were, and when I showed him they cover the period of my old machines asked me if I wanted them.

:ChinScratch:, That was a dumb guestion, :WhoMe: as I walked away with them. ;)

I've been taking a quick look through them, and some of the tips or tricks and projects they show are pretty cool!

Got an appointment to schedule my knee replacement this morning. The storm passed thru with heavy rain and wind. Rain so heavy could only barely see neighbors house. Working on a shooting bench for son's place known as "the Ranch" . OK only 5.5 acres but that is his name. Put down grounding rods yesterday and saw a pine down lodges on its neighbor. Also want to cut a clump of Sweet Gum next to garden , maybe.

Very windy, wet, coldish here today so not much happening. Finally feeling much better; even coffee tastes good. I'll perform some domestic duties today and batten down the hatches for the brutal cold coming. Plan to watch some of Second Friday of MECUM Auto Auctions from Kissimmee, FL. Youngest granddaughter resumes swim meets Saturday, but in the Chicago-land area so not sure if that will happen due to weather; supposed to be livestreamed. Church responsibilities Sunday.

How awesome Larry. Good for you. Amazing how things come together at times. Those books are certainly where they belong and in the right hands again today.

Like the tools depicted, what stories those books hold if they could speak.

Somehow, the word "preordained" popped into my mind when I saw this! :TwoThumbsUp:Good for you, Larry!

Today marks the end of an 8 1/2 month undertaking. Back in May of last year, I told a buddy that I would help him clean up his dad's "farm" and get it ready to sell. (His dad has been in a nursing home for about a year, and turned 99 a few days ago.} Now, about 75 old vehicles, hundreds of pounds of parer records, a couple thousand old tires, literally tons of old metal and hundreds of old tools later, the place is going to its new owner!  The realtor told us not to expect any interest or offers before spring or early summer. It was posted on a Thursday, and he had three offers by Sunday!!! Met a number of great people, "car nuts" mostly, but also several locals who dropped by to chat and tell us about the history of the place or offer to help. I should mention that this place is a 1 1/2-hour drive from home, as Larry would say "Two weeks from anywhere"! I use the term "farm" loosely, because the only thing that will grow on this land is rocks. I did save a few old tools and such from the scrap metal or garbage bins, and will post a few pictures as soon as my computer will let me post them again! :PullingHair:

Very cool. Been awhile but I find a nugget or two like these at a Thrift shop. Look to be from the 60's maybe early 70's at the latest???

Well it is days like this that I am happy as a clam about the all-weather shop.

Started on the MFT top for the height adjustable workbench tonight.  I don’t know why I waited so long to get a track saw.

It greatly simplifies working with sheet goods and it is every bit as accurate as a good table saw without the hassle of tossing a 3/4 4x8 sheet up on a table saw.  I am starting to see why the EU guys don’t care that much able table saws these days.

Anyway, got the top cut to 1/16” of final and started in on it with the Shaper Origin.  Got a lot of dog holes cut so far and finished cutting to final size and 100% squared up with the shaper so far, have a bunch more dog holes to to tomorrow.

The latest publication date I found was 1968 in The Rockwell Router Book.

The rest have their last publishing dates ranging from 1953-56 with the Getting the most out of your series of machine books also showing their first and later publication dates from the 1930's when Delta did them in more or less of a paperback pamphlet. (I've got a few of those around here somewhere)
