Deep pour epoxy resin

Featured Replies

Hello. I have a small woodturning business and i am in hawaii so it is hard to get epoxy resin shipped here. I have been using stone coat supercast deep pour epoxy. It costs around 200 for a 1.5 gal kit. It has recently become unavailable on amazon and i cant get anyplace that will ship it. Is there any other epoxies people would reccomend besides stone coat. I make alot of colored pencil bowls and alot of other stuff with koa and resin. Stuff like that. The stone coat epoxy is awesome! Anyone had any luck with any of the other epoxies? I was pretty sure stone coat was among the best.

Hi thank you for your advise I really appreciate it. It seems as soon as i find a good product that will ship to me, amazon stops selling it. None of the companies are willing to ship direct. Started with Stone Coat Super Cast Deep Pour. Great product for woodturning. Then I Switched to Alumalite Deep Pour when S.C. became unavailable. That is even better for turning. Very clear and doesn't shrink up as much in the pot. Then Boom. Everyone stopped shipping one day out of the blue. I had a successful woodturning business, it was a dream come true! Work at home! But due to supply chain issues, I have to go back to cabinetry working for clients. Frustrating !  Thanks Gene i will check out Total Boat!

However for people that see this in the future:
Alumalite deep pour:  Excellent for Turning Bowls or anything you may need it for. It sand back to a shine if you take it to 3000 grit. if you mix this epoxy gently there was almost no bubbles ever, but i use a pressure pot anyway not a torch. i made a couple chess boards where i was waiting for bubbles with a heat gun and didn't even need to use it!  that's good stuff!

Stone Coat Super Cast:  Just as good as Alumilite. Same parent company.(Promise Epoxy, too.) It seems to be just a little cloudier than Alumilite, but just a little. I've made river tables with both of these epoxies as well with great results.

Promise Epoxy: Id use one of the above epoxies if you can. Promise is a different compound and a bit cheaper but if you want the best go for the above two.
I hope maybe this helps someone in the future.

ps. Woodturning may be addictive. You may not want to go to work once you start.  Beware!
