Yesterday, my Dewalt 788 scroll saw suddenly developed a knocking noise somewhere in the head. Normally, on these saws the knock is in the arm and is easily remedied. Not this time, though. Took it in to a Dewalt authorized tool repair shop about 40 miles away.  Through city traffic it took about an hour to get there. The guys said that they're pretty well backed up and couldn't give a time estimate for the repair. I'm guessing at least a week. I've got 4 more personalized Christmas ornaments to get done. Hopefully it'll work out, timewise. If not, oh well, they're for family. They can use 'em next year. Meanwhile, we'll fire up the bandsaw and make some boxes.

Good chance. They are still in production. Likely, in China, though.:(

:ChinScratch: Might have enough parts to put together a Delta 40-440, some assembly required. ;)

Sorry to hear the "luck of Dave" has migrated to the warmer climate for the winter. His remnants remain active in the Midwest if it's any consolation.

If'n I was a betting man, I'd put my money on this. Easy fix once you get there. Root cause at about 8:11-9:00 mark. Lengthy but informative video. The only thing I see wrong is with the tee-shirt he's wearing.;)

Thanks, Dave. When I first got the saw as a gift. Used but very lightly. The knocking noise described in the video was evident. Using that video, I got it fixed. Unfortunately,  this knock emanates from the head. The workings in that area are too complicated for my teeny brain. As stated in another post, my mechanical ability is limited to placing a rear end in a recliner.;)

If this is a common problem, makes me wonder why a drop of Lock Tite wasn't used... :WonderScratch:

 That would have added $0.001 to the cost of production. ;)

I think there might be.  When I was making pic frames a couple weeks ago my bandsaw blade also broke.  Lowe's used to stock the size it takes (57"), but not any more.

Got a couple off eBay.

My bandsaw gets a lot of use. I keep a stock of blades on hand.  From 1/8 through 5/8 widths. I'm partial to Timber Wolf blades. Eventually, they all break or get dull, though.

Won't happen for two weeks from your perspective, don't worry about it yet.
