Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted June 12, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted June 12, 2023 So the next thing on the to-do list for the wife is a new bed. This one has a number of requirements. It needs to be simple, sturdy, modern, with clean lines, has to be tall enough to sweep and mop under, with a big headboard and no footboard. If necessary, it should be able to be disassembled and moved. After a ridiculous number of designs I finally have one that has been approved and construction has begun. The splines at the end of the rails were the impetus for my recent bandsaw maintenance and upgrades. Headhunter, lew, HARO50 and 2 others 4 1 Quote

StaticLV2 Posted June 12, 2023 Author Report Posted June 12, 2023 Thanks, I am trying to talk the wife into further walnut accents on the headboard but so far she is not convinced. HARO50, lew, Cal and 1 other 2 1 1 Quote
DAB Posted June 12, 2023 Report Posted June 12, 2023 (edited) Needs drawers underneath for storage. And then you can skip dusting. Edited June 12, 2023 by DAB lew, Grandpadave52, HARO50 and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted June 12, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted June 12, 2023 That was design 1-8. It was “too bulky” HARO50, Cal, Grandpadave52 and 2 others 2 3 Quote
4DThinker Posted June 12, 2023 Report Posted June 12, 2023 Love the corner castle joint! Smart idea to reinforce the rails there. Love the hand screw clamp detail as well. I suggest rotating it 45 degrees in plan view to reduce the chance of tripping on it. A notch in both jaws will help it clamp to the post at 45 degrees. 4D lew, HARO50, Cal and 1 other 2 2 Quote
StaticLV2 Posted June 14, 2023 Author Report Posted June 14, 2023 Made a little progress tonight. One of the side rails is done and the other is in the clamps. Grandpadave52, Cal, lew and 1 other 4 Quote

kmealy Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 A suggestion: * Put a leg in the middle of the center rail. It's common with king and queen beds Grandpadave52 1 Quote
StaticLV2 Posted June 20, 2023 Author Report Posted June 20, 2023 there will be one, it is getting glued up at the moment Grandpadave52 1 Quote
4DThinker Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 For a center leg, consider that human upper torsos are where most of our mass is. So rather than centered on the center rail put it 2/5 of the length from the headboard or there abouts. Might not make much obvious difference as hopefully the design is plenty strong, but the former structures class TA I played in college can't help but question common assumptions most make when there is a still time to encourage a slight structural improvement change. As for the headboard, are you planning adding any detail to it or a curved or stepped top edge? 4D Grandpadave52 and DuckSoup 2 Quote
StaticLV2 Posted June 20, 2023 Author Report Posted June 20, 2023 Went with a slightly stepped top edge with a slight angle that matches that of the legs then rounded and smoothed it out. Grandpadave52 and DuckSoup 2 Quote
