Then, back home for some left over B-day cake from Saturday's family celebration, then a nap. Probably, no shop time, today. The visit to urgent care was a wasted 90 minutes, 60 of which was spent waiting. Saw the doc for maybe 10 minutes, He wrote a script which the pharmacy can't fill and, suggested that I see an opthamologist and wrote down an OTC potion. Got the OTC stuff and it works somewhat to relieve the itching and dryness. Have an appt. with an opthamologist next Thursday. The trip to the Sushi place was far more successful and, infinitely more satisfying, as was the cake and ice cream.

April 4, 20233 yr Popular Post Went and voted, took maybe a whole five minutes. Now have to wait for the neighbor across the highway to put up their next round of signs that tell us who not to vote for.
April 4, 20233 yr Popular Post I'm sitting in AZ, looking at CA and wondering why it's so cold that I'm stuck in the house when we came down here to get some warmth. oh well the rest of the month is looking better, now we just wait to get the pool warm.

April 4, 20233 yr Popular Post Got a bunch of 8/4 poplar cutoffs from the cabinet/furniture shop's trash bin. Spent the afternoon jointing, planing, ripping, and resawing to 1/2" and 3/8" stock for boxes. Also spent some time edge-gluing up oak floorboards salvaged for same. Will need to do some final planing prior to starting cutting joints & parts any further. Tried to find some "cull" 1/4 plywood yesterday at the big box stores without any luck. Will probably use use solid wood insets for the top and bottom panels.
April 5, 20233 yr Popular Post neighbor contacted me yesterday, they are moving out of the house they own, and into a bigger place they are going to rent. (selling? no, hoping to rent out the current place, um, ok). but, new place is being renovated by the owner (roofer), and the kitchen is a rather blank slate at the moment. i learned this after we talked. she mentioned building a simple pantry with shelves. yeah, i could help with that. cheap? painted plywood is your best bet. but then she sent me pictures of what she hopes it might look like, and pictures of the existing space. it needs more than just a pantry. like many cabinets. base and wall. um, I was up for a simple plywood pantry that she would paint. but building a kitchen's worth of cabinets is not something I want to take on presently, nor would it end up saving her money (the owner offered to waive rent for one month if they fixed up the kitchen), even if I worked for free. I don't build cabinets the same way that commercial places do. so i use a lot more finished plywood to build my cabinets, and looking at cabinet prices (RTA) on homey depot, it would be about a wash. but if you got those, you'd have a set of cabinets in a few hours, versus me building cabinets over the course of several weeks/months. when she calls back with measurements, i'll have to break this to her. April 6, 20233 yr Popular Post I was headed into the big city today when I saw a beautiful old (1966) Craftsman Table Saw, model # 113.299992 10 unceremoniously sitting on the side of the road with some other junk. I stopped to check it out, too big and heavy to load into my car and no tools to piece it out, with a bunch of things to get done down in the city, I left it there knowing there was more than a good chance it would still be there when I got back. Two hours later it's still there I make for home, empty the car out, grab a handful of tools, and head back. It's now in the barn, all the. cobbing is removed and it's ready for restoration. This is the third Craftsman table saw I've found within a mile of home. Edited April 6, 20233 yr by frenchwwr
April 7, 20233 yr Popular Post WOW! Never have finds like that around here. That series of Craftsman saw were good 'ole saws. Appears this one has the cast iron extension too? Even has the rack and pinion fence. Great score Kevin. Just like picking up a $100 bill. Edited April 7, 20233 yr by Grandpadave52
April 7, 20233 yr Popular Post The day started off with a pickup of an antique Kiddie Kar off the side of the road that is selling at around $150+.
April 7, 20233 yr Popular Post Ophthalmologist visit went swimmingly. seems there's a low grade infection in the eye. He prescribed some drops. My insurance co. balked. Can't say that I blame them. An itty bitty, 5ml vial cost $400! I guess the Ins. co., the Dr. and the pharmacy had a confab and the medicine was eventually approved. One dose last night and 4 more today. It's supposed to last 4 days. Hope it does.
April 7, 20233 yr Popular Post I don't know why it is, but insurance companies really make you work to get eye prescriptions. Well, actually I do know why...the cheap @#%$)*&?<@# want to get out of paying for anything.
April 8, 20233 yr Popular Post Packed up the truck for Easter at the Ag tomorrow. We had a Passion service at church tonight. Tomorrow will be at the Ag til 2 and that kills the day.

Looks like we a bunch of stoners here Gunny! Hope you are feeling better, what's the diagnosis on your stone, do you have to let nature take its course, or are you going to get some modern medical help?

A good Rx sometimes just going out into the shop; even if you just sit there and listen to music. Prayers you get beyond the stone soon.
April 8, 20233 yr Popular Post so i'm at the pistol match today, and the club president knows i do woodworking, having built a lot of stuff for the club and he saw a pic of my shop last week. so he brings a busted dining table leg/foot off some 100 year old table set up. yup, busted, not fixable, but.....but i'm pretty sure i can duplicate it and improve the grain direction. 4 layers of 3/4" oak glued up, then band sawn to shape. easy. but i'll change the direction on the inner 2 laters to get better performance, so it doesn't crack again. and i have a small supply of nice white oak, just enough for this project, so won't cost you anything (lumber was a gift from a friend). did a quick check, yup, have enough material, just need to cut it smartly and glue it up, and then shape on the bandsaw to match. yay. i shot average, oh well.
