March 5, 20233 yr Popular Post So the wife has commissioned another piece of furniture and this is an interesting one. The original was made by a guy out in Pittsburg and is rather loosely based on a Japanese alter table from what I understand. It took me a while to reverse engineer it and I kind of question the overall design as it is basically a front and rear frame with doweled crossmembers.. Anyway, new projects require new tools so a couple of spokeshaves were in order. These are L-N flat and curved spokeshaves and are so far great for dealing with curved surfaces like the templates for the legs on this table. And speaking of the table. The raw pieces for the front and rear frame are cut. Now its just a matter of joinery….lots and lots of joinery
March 5, 20233 yr Wow! You weren't kidding about the joinery! Those legs will make it more of a challenge.
March 5, 20233 yr Popular Post Just hope my wife does not see that, might take years. Speaking of which how long did it take to create this work of art?
March 5, 20233 yr Popular Post Nice table. Do you reckon all those dots on the front frame are decorative? They look like they might be screw plugs.
March 6, 20233 yr Author Popular Post @Gerald I have zero Idea how long the original took. I started this week so we will see how long it takes to do. You can see the status of my reproduction attempt in the form of parts and pieces in the 3rd picture. @Fred W. Hargis Jr I am pretty sure that those dots are actually dowels that are connected to the crossmembers. But now that you mention it, those could be caps for screws as well. In the version I am building I think those will just be dowels.
March 6, 20233 yr Interesting project. Congrats on the new tool acquisitions. Will be following along.
