Friday again.

Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" were enjoying the "Ground Hog" (In our case Prairie Dog) being confused. :P

Other than todays forecast of warming up to freezing,  mid to upper 40's forecast for 5 days starting tomorrow!

Almost all of that just shy of a foot of snow from last week is now gone!

 Now trying to figure out the "Mud" forecast for outside work. <_<

:ChinScratch: What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Preps for our big Super Bowl party are almost completed....scratch that, we're done. Not a lot of planning to have beer and wings.

Headed south with BIL and SIL to Tubac AZ for some sight seeing and trinket shopping. Then a bit further south for some Angus burgers. Total of about 1.5 hr.s windshield time one way. That'll shoot today.  Tomorrow is TBD. Might get in some shop time with the BIL. None of the four of us are terribly interested in Sunday's Super Bowl. Might catch the last part of the game out of curiosity.

Nothing much going on here.  Finishing up a couple carbide turning tools I've been working on this week.

Today catching D3 streamed events of youngest granddaughters college conference swim meet. She's done well so far. A couple of personal best events; one podium finish so far. Tonight our church is hosting Valentines Day dinner. Saturday, more swim meet finals. Sunday, church responsibilities, then...

Youngest grandson double-header travel league basketball games. They remain undefeated so far in 2023. Later, I WILL NOT be watching pre-game, 1st half, half-time show, 2nd half, post game of Super Bowl 57. Too much theatrics and politics, too little football.

Finish up the stand for my soon arriving Taig CNC mini mill.  Space plan the utility room where it will live to take advantage of existing power outlets and other metal processing tools I'll move in there.  I also need to revive an old PC or buy a new refurbished one to run that Taig mill.

finished my 3rd week of PT this morning and found out that I can drive , much to the perplexed look of my wife. More sanding on the cane and some shop piddling today and the same tomorrow. Church Sunday and the game . Wife is hooked on KC since we lived there about 9 years. Knee is doing pretty good so will be testing it more next week. If someone had told me how weak that leg would be I would not have believed it.

Got the window I been working on trimmed out, and caulked, and ready to paint!

Great news all around. I went 73 days before I could drive. Amazing how quickly muscle atrophy sets in.

Lots of gardening coming up so I took the opportunity to turn a little seed dibbler today.

Got a head start on the weekend.  Finished the fence for the router table and 1" radius bit, then 1"r rounded over the table corner corners of the 4 legs of the tool bench I'm making.

brought the legs inside, then cleaned up/sanded every face. Then used a 1/4"r  round over bit to soften the two other outside corners of each leg. Sanded away all the ripples, stains, abuse those 4x4 posts had on their faces to end up with a pretty clean looking base.  This cedar is too soft and dents too easily to make good household furniture, but does make a good hefty base for tools.

Found my iron to apply iron-on veneer tape to the top and bottom edges of the plywood stretchers.   Only tape I have on hand is white oak, so I've ordered some birch edge veneer to use.

Even worked in a 3 hour nap.  :)

guy from the water treatment company stopped by to do our annual service, had his son along, learning the business.  excellent.  they got all done, confirmed I was their last stop, asked if they'd like a snack for the ride home - fresh baked (yesterday) choc. chip cookies.....well, ok.  fetch a bag of 6, nice big ones, hand them to the kid "hey, these are nice and big!" yep, i bake what i'd eat (and have eaten some of them), man sized cookies.  told him he had to share with dad.  nice folks.

I'll second what Dave has said there Thad.

As for myself, I was doing battle with a head cold all week.  I didn't feel too bad, except for the 50# my head seemed to weigh :(

Rain is forecast for the whole weekend.  I thought it would be a good time to start doing our taxes.  Nope - the H&R Block software I normally used requires a newer operating system that I have.  My old Mac won't update any further.  Looking around, I started using Turbo Tax - They didn't even list any requirements.

That, and looking online for a "new" car.  I can get sidetracked on that pretty easily.

I will be watching the game Sunday evening.  No dog in the hunt.  Just because I reckon. :)

Little story about Turbo Tax. It was developed by a school mate of mine, Mike Chipman. He was one year ahead of me and I best knew him because of his extremely good looking sister who was in my class. Mike graduated in 1965 and went to the Air Force academy to study computer engineering (talk about perfect timing). He rose to the rank of Captain and resigned to start his own software business named "Chipsoft" where he developed the Turbo Tax stuff. His firm was bought out by Intuit making him a centi-millionaire. He now lives in Reno (I think) and owns part of the AZ Diamondbacks. My high school put him on the honored students list (something like that)....somehow they overlooked me for that list.:throbbinghead:

Had to resort to some mallet and chisel work today.  Only have one blood drawing nick in a thumb for my efforts.  The cedar legs of the tool bench will have boards running front to back across the top of the legs.  A place to mount the drawer slides.  Pockets to set the board into the front legs and what should have been tenons on the back to slide into mortises on the back legs.

I woke up this morning bothered by how poorly aligned these board currently were thanks to the twisting non-square cedar post legs.   Went down to the shop room and stared at what would need to be done to "fix" the alignment.   Considered putting the legs back on the CNC, but non-parallel sides on them is what made the CNC cuts so far off.   Finally came to the conclusion I could just mark what material would need to be removed and go about removing it with chisel and mallet. Cedar give up easily to a sharp blade. A little more finesse is required for a perfect fit.

Contemplating what among the assorted finishes I have would be best for the cedar legs.  I've got a can of teak oil never used before. Some water based polyacrylic, and spray cans of assorted clear lacquer, acrylic, cheap mystery, etc..
