I'll try to get caught up over the next several days but won't be around regular for a while. It's with a heavy heart I make this post, but my step-father peacefully passed away ~3:30A Saturday at the age of 95, two days short of his 96th birthday which would have been today Monday, January 30th. A brief family only visitation will occur tomorrow, Jan 31 before leaving the funeral home for grave site services followed by his well earned Military Rites. He was a WWII veteran, arriving in England a few weeks before VE. He served the remainder of his time ('45-'47) in Occupied Germany. Another one of "The Greatest Generation" has gone home. He was a good, kind man...but he was a great "father", grandfather, and great-grandfather. His physical presence will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in the fact we will see him again some day. Below are two pictures. The first is his obituary picture...taken in 1945. He was 18. The second is one taken October, 27, 2014 just prior to boarding our Honor Flight at Purdue Airport. I had the honor and privilege to serve as his guardian. That day ranks in significance right along with the day I was married, birth of our daughter and our grandchildren. He was 87 in this picture. I would ask for your prayers especially tomorrow ~1P, EST. Rest easy, soldier, we have the watch. Prayers to you and your family, Dave.
January 31, 20233 yr Well, I spent about 3 hours pulling staples out of the ironing board and removing 4 layers of fabric and padding. Had some left over Formica and just enough contact cement to glue it down. J-roller and trim the edges. Relocate the cleats to the other side. Added a layer of aluminum foil on top of the Formica, then reattached the layers of fabric. Hope this works. Today pulled some odds and ends of lumber from the rack to make some boxes for Children's Hospital to have the kids paint while they are in for long periods. Still considering design options and dimensions.

Sorry guys for delayed response. Yesterday took more out of me than I thought both physically and emotionally. Long day that went all too quickly. Nice service. Albiet quite cold, a beautiful sunny day at the cemetery. My grandsons were quite taken with the Military Ceremony. The Honor Guard was amazing which also included two active Army members. At my request, my wife asked for 4 spent cartridges. One each for myself, two grandsons and my daughter and SIL. My youngest step-brother received the remainder as well as the flag as it should be. Youngest step-brother is retired career Air Force. Very difficult day for him. Thanks again so much for caring. Truly appreciate your kindness, friendship and taking the time to honor a great man, solder and patriot. God bless you.
