February 9, 20233 yr Author I'm making headway into my shell carving. I found that a coping saw will remove a lot of the waste, saving me much time in carving it away.
February 11, 20233 yr Author Things haven't spiraled out of control, yet! This is just the initial carving-in and I will be going back to touch up everything before gilding/painting. There is still a considerable amount of carving to be done here.
February 28, 20233 yr Author Almost finished and ready to start the finishing. I'm not too pleased with how the inner horns came out. This project may be a "re-do" in the near future.

This project may be a "re-do" in the near future. You chose a most challenging project model for this series. I can see why YOU might be a little disappointed, but I'm quite impressed. Looking at this, "Horns of a Dilema 2.0" would be something to behold.
March 3, 20233 yr Author I've gotten the plaque turned on the lathe. Everything, except for the ogee molding will be painted in satin black. The ogee will receive a layer of gold leaf.
March 9, 20233 yr Author Painting/gilding finished on the shell and plaque. When everything is dry, I'll put the two together.
March 9, 20233 yr That's great Rick. Is it just the paint with light reflection or did you use a special technique to give the iridescent appearance on the shell? Either way, very cool.
