The bench top router table, or shaper, is not an invention of recent history with the woodworking craze of the 90's through the 2000's, as sold by our favorite woodworking retailers. This image is from at least 1941. I wonder what brand router that is? And it looks like it's has a tilting mechanism as well. Could the router be part of the table set up? Or does that router detach like ours do today?

Completely not woodworking related, but I just found it completely fascinating and I wanted to share my joy of finding this to you all. I have always been a fan of American History, specifically 18th and 19th Century everything. I stumbled on this video while looking for something for the Monday Topic, and I was thrilled to watch this and listen. Hope you like it too.

Howdy.  Just dropping in to let everyone know that I will be taking a break for a while.  I'll check in now and again but will not be posting on a regular basis.

No.  Nothing is wrong.  Just taking some time off.

Today I'm on a hardware hunt for the 4 desks I'll be building.  Updated copies of a desk I made in college with some updates. Need some furniture connector bolts and matching nuts, along with some 1/16" thick nylon 1" diameter washers.

Dug out a set of legs I had made from cherry a few years back.  Found a dark stain on one end of one leg that I have no idea where came from. Doesn't want to sand off easily suggesting it penetrated pretty deep.  Not sure I'll use this set of legs. I plan to make the desks from white oak and already have some quarter sawn white oak veneer for the top.

Spending time in the shop.  Have no aim or goal just what grabs my attention.  Making a few bowls lately.

Just finished an upgrade to one of our kitchen cabinets.

Our place in SC has minimal builder-level cabinets, including those cheap 3/4 drawer runners.

There is one 33" wide base cabinet that had two 12" wide drawers at the top with a 3" stile in the center.  Fortunately the drawer fronts and doors appeared like a full overlay.

I had already installed full width roll out trays in the bottom, after cutting out the vertical stile and reinforcing the horizontal stile.

I used my box joint jig and made a single full width drawer 28 1/2" wide.  Cut out the stile between the drawers, installed full extension soft close drawer runners and re-attached the fronts.  Increased drawer space by 28.5%.

Not up to the standards of most of the projects here on TPW, but mother is happy!

Keeping the grandsons today. They're out of school for MLK. SIL had some minor outpatient foot surgery early today. Tomorrow, taking Buick in for drive-ability exam then run some errands. Negotiating with freight company for possible Wednesday delivery of saw. Have a couple of items to get packaged up and sent out. Some honey-do projects depending on weather. Nothing really noteworthy.

Got that mesquite slab sanded to 220.

Phyl went grocery shopping and, after unloading the groceries for her, she treated me to a delicious egg salad sandwich on rye that she bought at the deli. That then, called for a half hour nap. Feeling totally refreshed, headed back to the shop and resawed some stock for the inlay. Then, took it down to 1/8" on the DeWalt planer. I'm calling it a day. Hey, I've been at it since 04:30. :OldManSmiley:

Working on attaching a piece of sheet aluminum to the back of this cabinet.  In its former life it was a Hunter Alignment Machine cabinet with a keyboard on top.  Back was open.  My plan is to enclose the cabinet and add a 1 1/2 inch top with Formica.  The lock on the door has been repaired so it can be locked up again.

Sweet score Gunny. Looks like it has runner guides for drawers too?

Indeed, they could be.  Guy that is buying it from me wants the lower cabinet to hold a fluid extractor which is 18 inches tall. Opening is 19 1/4, so no drawers.  He brought over couple boxed tools he doesn't use much, and they just fit in top section.  Working on the top now.  Applied Formica to the sides tonight.  Will put top piece on tomorrow and break out the hand file and work the edges over nice and smooth.  Then flip and paint the bottom red.  Seals the MDF completely up.  Probably be done by Friday.

Got a few misc. jobs & chores done over the weekend.  It was uncomfortably cold so it was inside duty :)

Yesterday the wind had calmed down and temps made it back to upper 50's and sunny.  Finished attaching dresser drawer pulls and got the  carcasses stacked.  Boy howdy this thing is big - and will be heavy!  But, I needed to do this.  Customer (daughter) is agreeable to a solid base that will bring it down about 3-4" from the plans.  Told her by the plans I would have to do a tip toe to look inside the top drawer!

She's asked for some veining on the drawer fronts.  As much as I don't think it needs it, that's the next step.  Then chamfer the drawer edges.

Today SWMBO & I will spend the afternoon & evening in Macon.  Need to pick up a piece of plywood for the base, get some supper and then a movie at the historic Douglass Theater.

Temps are supposed to hold during the week, so I am hopeful that the light I am seeing is the end of the tunnel...

The "plan", if you will, is simply a pic from the Ikea catalog.  Custom measurements to accommodate the daughters needs, wants & wishes. :)

Careful it's not the front of a train.:P

Very nice job on the dresser.:Praise: Hope you don't have to move it too far.

Nice job, Cal.

What exactly is this veining to which you referred? Paint?

Stepsons parts are supposed to arrive sometime today, so will probably start reassembly tomorrow.

Next up looks like Marks 07 Chrysler Pacifica with the 4.0L V6 that he just bought from his parents. 102K miles and it appears the timing belt has never been changed.

:ChinScratch:This one shouldn't be to bad it uses the same belt kit as the 3.5L V6, and I did that job at the plant for over a year. We ran Trentons 4.0L pilot motors down the 3.5L assembly line before they started production.
