Friday January 6th 2023-What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Friday again folks! :)

Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I guess it's time to get back with it after taking the rest of last year (Dec. 31st), and the first few days of this year off. -_-

The weather hasn't been very cooperative with getting at the Stepsons Cobalt, With the rain/snow through most of the week I put off towing it for a better day.

It's about 25 miles from where we'll be working on it. <_<

Tomorrow's supposed to be better weather, we shall see.

So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

The flooring crew will be finishing up the install of our new living room and dining area, today. They just have the quarter round and some transition strips to do. Then Phyl and I will move some of the furniture back in. She wants to exchange a couch with one from the family room. Methinks we'll wait until one or both of our sons can help. One couch is a hide-a - bed. It is one heavy piece.  :OldManSmiley:

In the meantime, I need a lot more practice with the scroll saw.

Mrs. Boss located a broken freezer on Facebook Marketplace.  Making arrangements to go pick it up tomorrow.  $100 and two hours away.

Time to do the phone shuffle at AT&T.  Son broke his.  My phone will get his number and I'll pick out a new one.  Migrating away from the iOS platform hoping Apple will come to it's senses on pricing one of these days.   Looking at a Galaxy S22 / S22 Ultra.   This saga started when my 2013 Macbook Pro's hardware failed to meet corporate security requirements.  Still works just fine.  Just can't use it for work anymore.  Priced out a replacement MBP, they want $3000+ for a comparable model these days.  Good thing it wasn't my main workstation (27" iMac Pro), just one that I used for email and such after office hours.  Replaced it with an Android tablet.

Got that extra monitor installed earlier this week.

I might actually get out to the shop after all that stuff gets handled.  Seems like it's been really hard to get any time at the lathe recently.

Playing around in the shop.  Had a sketchy blank for an awl but turned it anyway.  when done there was a crack still in it.  Had an idea to try using PVA glue as a finish.  Tried burnishing it on.  Didn't work so sanded it off and wiped on some poly.  I'm keeping this one to use around the house.

Adam the plumber called and is coming by Sunday to run the Air Compressor line.  That project is back on track.  Shop time is looking pretty slim....again.

A few domestic duties today before wife gets home tonight. A couple of honey-dos over the weekend. Tomorrow, sister-in-law is hosting a "send off" party for her youngest grandson (our great-nephew). He's being deployed for 4-1/2 months. Church responsibilities Sunday. Shop remains closed due to extreme climate change. Seems to happen about every 6 months.

Trying to wrap up the workday so shop time can begin.

On the list for this weekend:

A 2 position locking lazy Susan for the Tormek part of the sharpening station

Drawers for the sharpening station if the hardware comes in.

Make some progress on the entry bench.  So far that has been a serious learning experience and its going to be interesting doing some butterflies for the first time.

Back to the theater set shop Saturday.  Unfortunately, just before Christmas, a water line froze and dripped a couple of inches of water over a couple of the rooms.  We'll need to do some rehab in the restrooms where it happened.

My wife and I stopped at a craft salvage shop while running errands yesterday.  She was looking for some yarn for charity projects.  I got several pieces of picture framing mat board and some glass.  Went thru it today to sort it out.

I'm doing a presentation on furniture touch ups with burn in repairs next Saturday at the WW club, so I'm doing some PPT and prepping for that.

had planned on re organizing the ''office'' of shop, it actually has the lasers and 3d printer along with the computer and a file cabinet in it, but still feel like crap, dr. gave me some drugs, see and hope they kick in soon, good nites rest happened so, just maybe.

have the very liberal Sister inlaw coming first of week, she wants to make a buncha boards and other things , gonna be here a couple weeks, heres hoping i feel good enough to make her trip palatable.

gonna again re layout the shop some, move a few tools around, see if it helps the flow. hard to say, what direction for sure.

do have a replacement laser coming for the one that went up in smoke when we plugged it in, had to repack it and send the whole thing back, they couldn't or wouldn't just send me the board and power source, luckily i kept almost all the original packing, got the tracking number yesterday, due mid next week.,

see how the weekend goes, my gitty up done got up and left early

Well the cherry wood entry-way bench is well under way.  This is a new kind of project for me as I am using someone else’s design as inspiration.

I do not have plans for this outside of what I drew up and I have had to be creative with a lot of things because:

1. I lack some of the tooling of the original builder

2. I lack the original craftsman’s skills.

3. This bench will be considerably smaller in scope.

All that aside, I am pleased with the progress so far.

The top, legs, and stretchers are complete at this point.
Tomorrow I will cut the tenons on the aprons, and the angled mortises for the wedges, dado the inside faces of the apron to attach ledger blocks to hold the top on.

Once the supporting frame is done I will lay out and cut the inlets for the legs on the top of the bench.

After that, I have a lot of profiling to do, a ton of sanding, and finishing.

At this point, I am deliberately picking projects that force me to step outside of my comfort zone.

:ChinScratch: It would appear I confused a couple of people with that comment.

Depending what your birthdate is determines which Wednesday of the month you get your Social Security check. ;)

After some serious rain Tuesday & Wednesday the weather has been most cooperative.  Cool mornings and warmish afternoons.  Took advantage of it yesterday to do a complete, well almost complete, yard service.  Edging the drive & walkway, trimming and raking leaves back from all edges - then running the lawnmower over the whole yard to cut weeds and mulch up the leaves.  Things look pretty good right now.  Got me to thinking about pruning the muscadines, but that job will wait for another day.  My fitbit recorded just a bit over 35,000 steps yesterday!!!

Today I will be back on the dresser.

And looking towards Monday evening... :)  Those who follow college football know my meaning. :D

well slept late today, benefit of the drugs allowing me to get that done, feeling better for sure, new laser head for the first laser showed up, the guru says coming by later to give it a go, hope i'm up for it

about 42 degrees with promise of high 60s to maybe 70 big ones, bit of cloud cover but supposedly mostly sunny.

i was inside all day yesterday, only ventured out to grab a package at front door, not my mo, but decided to not push being the he'man on this go around, probably a good call as today i feel quite well, of course meds making it happen.

i feel guilty when i dont accomplish something every day, even if its just a sweep job, oh well.

happy sunday, gonna be light duty regardless.

Found a couple sheets of designs specifically for scroll saw practice. Several zig zag like lightning bolts, a christmas tree, several curvey lines and a bunch of letters. So far, since 04:00, 4 hours ago, I've cut about half of them.  I'm VERY slow.:OldManSmiley: But, I'm improving. It's not as easy as those guys on Yout Tube make it seem.
