Making a link open in a new window

Featured Replies

Hello,

On this posting I linked to both new content and a previously-posted image. On some platforms there is a toggle to select, "open in new window" when adding a link to an image or text..

Interestingly enough, when I lay the URL into this post, and it appears as a preview with interactivity, clicking on it does open linked content in a new window.

Is there a way to make URLs using the478099977_ScreenShot2022-04-22at6_30_13PM.png.a0f2fa7bf73cd7b8019d25ef5c063259.pngicon open links in new tabs / windows?

Thank you!  -  jim

No not natively. But if your at a mouse, right click the link and select "Open in new tab".

If your on a tablet, finger hold on the link and select "Open in new tab".

Sorry Woodman 😊

I'm getting used to it. :cowboy: The Woodman is a Keyboard Cowboy :OldManSmiley: And frequently Command + W to close a link, thinking origination content is "behind" the linked content.

All is well. The frame spacer collapsed but I did not throw it in the fireplace. The hemlock tray has been wiped with diluted violin varnish and will be going to Virginia.  A centerpiece, of all things, on her dining room table.  And just think, slap-together slats ripped off a 140 year old beam, literally a few test cuttings assembled into a basement shelf, and now Auntie wants it front and center.  Just goes to show you.  Make each piece like its your last? Or closer to what mom used to say, "Always wear clean underwear in case you have to go to the hospital."

Command-Click on a Mac.

I pretend I know nothing about PCs and Windows platforms. Lest I'm recruited to do more endless organizing for relatives.  Seriously, one even records every purchase, down to rubber bands. Six spreadsheets per year.

@Cal, sorry it took so long getting back to you after your April 22nd

"Making a link open in a new window" means that when you click on a link, the link opens a second tab or browser window. The linked content appears in a new "window" instead of replacing the content you're viewing. The interface looks like this:

I'll spare you my usual refrigerator analogies. But as you navigate web pages, you'll notice some links replace your content, and other links open in a new page / tab / window.  The "new window" thing is a way to retain traffic which stumbles to your content.
