March 21, 20224 yr Popular Post Can't afford to do much anymore, what with the wood prices (as well as gas prices) being what they are, so I'm making a small drink tray for Marie to sit next to the couch. She has a table on the right side, but has to use here left hand due to some finger surgery she had a few weeks back. Right now she uses a TV tray, which gets in the way.
March 21, 20224 yr Popular Post Busy weekend, at least for me. Mrs Grandma GrandpaDave is home today. Usually no good comes of that.. Grandsons are coming over after school today so that should take some focus off of me. May get some putter time in the garage today? Remainder of the week TBD. Rain, then cold returns starting tomorrow so outside, spring prep will be postponed.

Demo went well Saturday except for getting that catch on the first bowl and it exploded. Fortunately no injuries. Sunday went to Son's "ranch" , ok only 5.5 acre but that is what he calls it, and poisoned all the thistle. Must have been 200 and we did only about 2/3 of the acreage.
March 21, 20224 yr Popular Post Spent most of Monday cleaning stuff. Usually, Murphy doesn't make an appearance on days when the machines are off and the sharp things are hiding. First up was to empty both shop vacs and blow out the filters. Then came the metal carving bench...that is a carving station made of metal. Let me clarify...My son carves metal, not me. Then the Melamine SCMS bench and, it's mate, the melamine laser bench. Finally, got around to the planer's Shelix head. Four rows of 10 ea. 1/2X1/2 carbide cutters. Each needs to be removed and the seats need to be scrubbed with a brass wire brush to remove the slightest trace of impacted sawdust and, the same for each cutter. When little ridges start showing up on a planed board, indicating one or more cutter is raised a bit, it's time for this job. Then the bed got a coat of wax. Now, I think I'm done with cleaning...till next time. Tomorrow, there's a belt sander to repair.

March 22, 20224 yr Popular Post Tuesday... went out for breakfast for 7:00. Came home, Toilet upstairs has been taking FOREVER to refill the tank. Timed it, just over 3 minutes. Took it apart, was going to replace it with one of those nice new oriental imports that last about six months, but decided to see if I could recondition it. Good old American Standard, 37 years old, and this is the original refill valve! Took almost two hours, just a thorough cleaning, but works like new. 1 1/2 minutes for the full tank. And it will probably still be working after I'm gone!
