The demo for our Mar. meeting was what our president called a "cousin it". Most people call them a "gonk". After the demo he issued a president's challenge for us all to make some. Had never really had any interest in making these but I knew immediately I wanted to make mine with a wizard hat. I also wanted to give them a wizard nose and wanted to use a little piece of limb for that but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

I decided to do a few more and use a more conventional nose and I think that just works better.

Our youngest daughter dubbed these "sorting hat critters". I think that actually fits.

Saw these yesterday on Ruth Niles' post

It has her "pop top opener" but I think it could also work for her bottle stoppers.

I like how you curves the top of the hats.  The spalting really adds to the look.

Good job. A friend makes lots of these and they basically tell a visual story. He did one with light poles for a retired power worker.

I find this type of critter to be very humorous.  A lot of cool work from everyone. I call these my “Mancave Marauders”   Just… Funning around in the shop.  Nice work all.

Wow, had no idea how versatile this idea could be.

This was kind of a revelation to me, I guess I never thought of making them in that light. Possibilities are endless.

I can't speak for others but our club president said what he used was faux fur from Joann fabrics. I just searched Amazon for faux fur and there were several hits, some of which actually stated it was used for Gnomes.

That's what I used for mine.  The hair on some of those pictured have longer hair.  I guess there is different lengths?

I got some faux fur from JoAnn Fabrics and also picked up a similar product from Hobby Lobby.

Yes the fur is available in different lengths and apparently the longer is harder to find.
