February 17, 20224 yr Popular Post After the last few projects, decided things were getting out of hand... Having to dig out a box for the right tool.. Bench was always covered in tools...because.. Not really any place to store them...without doing a lot of digging around.. Wasn't enough hooks for the bevel gauges...screwdriver rack was a mess.. Most of these chisels were never needed, rack could be removed, Old Jack needs a better home than on a ledge.. This corner needed to be cleaned out..and start over... Well, that IS a start...where'd all them squares go? Maybe build a rack for these? It is a start... 9 squares should handle about any job...rest went to a drawer, as I never really used those. Sorted through that red rack.. Emptied it out...things were laid out on the bench...things with ugly plastic handles headed to the mechanic's drawer..which left.. Red rack was cut down. The old chisel rack in the left hand door was re-located to the back of the bench's chisel rack.. And the cut-down red rack installed in it's place....then filled up.. And that will do it, for part 1 Stay tuned...

February 17, 20224 yr Popular Post neat is good. my downfall is my 100+ clamps. but they all have homes. not as many hand tools, and way fewer squares.

February 18, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Hammer/drill door...lengthened a couple holders, to hold a second claw hammer..added 2 hangers on the side of the door for 2 smaller hamers.. As for the drills at the top of this door....got tired of removing a c clamp just to get out a drill...has to set two drills aside for a moment,,, The bar was drilled for a pivot screw, with a second one on the other end for it to rest on..locking 4 drills in place.. Next..a big fight with the combo squares.. As this just won' t do...similar to the Try Square rack....needed a few extras.. A keeper to try to hold these all in place..those two 6" versions didn't like this set up... Kept trying to flip over, and run away..."Mutiny, Mr. Christian, Mutiny, I say!" Will add a magnetic strip along the top of the rack, and THAT should hold them... All this clearing out...left a Big Empty.. Hmmm. Anyway..re-arranged the main Plane til.. And found some room for the two Stanley No. 8s...but, a lot of the #3 and #4 sized planes got "evicted" as a bunch of Jack planes got moved around, too.. So..where did all the little guys wind up at? Might build a shelf or two above these, and line them up a bit better? So far.. Plane Til has been revamped...Drawers hold "extra" block planes..next.. Right side seems to be done, might still bring the other 2 marking gauges over to beside the older two... Left side? Done, for now Have both dovetail saws hanging, and the No. 4 Backsaw, a D8 Panel saw...and 4 coping saws...A speed square and 2 church keys hang above the coping saws... So far..at least the doors will still shut... Managed to get ONE shelf installed.. Intend to add a couple more.... Don't want to load these up too much.... Stay tuned...
February 18, 20224 yr Popular Post Well spring is just around the corner so the garage sale circuit will take care of that empty space. I predict by the 4th of July. Enjoying just looking through your tool crib Bandit.

February 18, 20224 yr Author Popular Post The 2 longer saws are a Disston D8 rip saw, 28" long, 5-1/2 ppi, "Thumbhole" handle..the other is a Disston D-112 ( a carved handle D-8) Also on the door, an Atkins No. 10 adjustable back saw, and a D8 ( no hyphen) 10 ppi Panel saw. These 4 saws are my "Ready Use" saws..... Have the materials to start making some shelves, today...IF I do manage to get to the shop....
February 18, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Ok....old school saw, to cut this line.. To make a 24"long shelf... That needed 2 brackets installed on... So I can add a shelf in the Tool Cabinet... To hold a few hand planes...making it easier to select the size I need...off to the right, where there are just 2 marking gauges? The other 2 in the shop now are stashed here...bottom one is a Mortise marking gauge. Saw wasn't quite done, yet.. Cut a small shelf, and removed the scrap section...second shelf? Saw was getting a work out, today...what cussing there was, concerned the P-poor tips to drive the screws...looks like I'll need to re-stock those... Old school saw... Just needed the blade tightened up...9ppi cuts fast... Still need to clear out right in front of the Plane Til.... Stay tuned.

February 20, 20224 yr Popular Post Some day there will be a wonderful sale and folks will think what talented and industrious fellow stored and maintained the museum. But for now you need a basement stretcher.

February 21, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Ready for the $0.05 Tour? Goal was to clear off the bench..so...start there.. Blue items are Bench dogs, by KREG...Under the bench? Those be "Extras" ....clamp rack? All C clamps wind up here...that thing sticking out of the side of the bench? Is called a Crochet...supposed to be able to jam the end of a board between it and the bench...other end gets clamped in the leg vise....This one is getting replaced, as it has cracked. Next? These two are now on the end of the bench...doors will swing out over them. Only one drawer is in use.. Looks like these 2 had a baby....happens when you leave 2 blocks planes alone in a drawer.. The Tool Cabinet....seems to be done, for now? Starting with the left side..details.. Top of the corner...rather crowded? Bottom of the corner. Land of the "Bigs" . Shelf details... Bottom of the left corner..6 block planes, and a row of smoothers... Upper left corner... Right door has 9 saws, and a full rack.. Trying to keep those 2 block planes separated.. Benchtop organizer, opened up..and the other box? Yes, that tray does come out.. If I fill this area too full, tray won't go back in..nor will the lid close.. And that is it for the Tour....watch your step on the way out....
