Having to dig out a box for the right tool..:PullingHair:

1968215430_MessyBenchlongview.JPG.d84979654b850ed48d1c7da361e29337.JPG

Bench was always covered in tools...because..:PullingHair:

1040979958_Toolchestrehabneedsracks.JPG.5198f178649d2658bdfaff95df4c93bf.JPG

Not  really any place to store them...without doing a lot of digging around..:ArguingSmileys:

680797201_Toolchestrehabnewhangers.JPG.3d899eb985b2d3b28cd3dc0840c1680a.JPG

Wasn't enough hooks for the bevel gauges...screwdriver rack was a mess..:ArguingSmileys:

Most of these chisels were never needed, rack could be removed, Old Jack needs a better home than on a ledge..:BugEyeSmiley:

This corner needed to be cleaned out..and start over...:ArguingSmileys:

Well, that IS a start...where'd all them squares go?:ChinScratch:

1767568323_Toolchestrehabneedsarack.JPG.734154dd64f4def45bd414f2756dd9df.JPG

Maybe build a rack for these?:WonderScratch:

9 squares should handle about any job...rest went to a drawer, as I never really used those.  :OldManSmiley:

Sorted through that red rack..:MachineGun:

1656087269_Toolchestrehabneedstrimmed.JPG.04819c07c2a11b0686aa510d9ad6afea.JPG

Emptied it out...things were laid out on the bench...things with ugly plastic handles headed to the mechanic's drawer..which left..:WonderScratch:

651787519_Toolchestrehabsorting....JPG.07569b2d666f9915e03e5557ff84dfb3.JPG

Red rack was cut down.   The old chisel rack in the left hand door was re-located to the back of the bench's chisel rack..463010112_Toolchestrehabchiselracksnewhome.JPG.8933e6be9c2e22f56823a20d21a40cb9.JPG

And the cut-down red rack installed in it's place....then filled up..

1183571032_Toolchestrehabsmallsaws.JPG.92292e84248b860e1eec3152ab61f17f.JPG

And that will do it, for part 1 :GoodNight:

Stay tuned...:cowboy:

Right, because adding horizontal space in a shop has always solved a tool storage problem:OldManSmiley:

Tried that.... put the new bench in the garage. Now it's got reclaimed hardwood stacked 3' high, and no room for anything else! :(

Got a step ladder? Surely there's still space for tools on top?:D

neat is good.

my downfall is my 100+ clamps.  but they all have homes.  not as many hand tools, and way fewer squares.

Hammer/drill door...lengthened a couple holders, to hold a second claw hammer..added 2 hangers on the side of the door for 2 smaller hamers..

68643736_Toolchestrehabmorehammerspace.JPG.9125976795f51d32fa700c37a2c857ea.JPG

As for the drills at the top of this door....got tired of removing a c clamp just to get out a drill...has to set two drills aside for a moment,,,

1131658147_Toolchestrehabnewkeeperinstalled.JPG.f756a51740c2fe97a0932207c8527ce5.JPG

The bar was drilled for a pivot screw, with a second one on the other end for it to rest on..locking 4 drills in place..

848899032_Toolchestrehabkeeperlocked.JPG.8681e7ab8b2e8e866763ea30d61f143b.JPG

Next..a big fight with the combo squares..

1779038894_Toolchestrehabtemp.housing.JPG.23bda409ab3cfb527c05c3ee624338cc.JPG

As this just won' t do...similar to the Try Square rack....needed a few extras..

177800670_Toolchestrehabnewrack.JPG.84c7454c1f523e74b1008743fac841f6.JPG

A keeper to try to hold these all in place..those two 6" versions didn't like this set up...

1435963973_Toolchestrehabcombosquareracksideview.JPG.f8edcb403890776fcba9d6a90eb96706.JPG

Kept trying to flip over, and run away..."Mutiny, Mr. Christian, Mutiny, I say!"  Will add a magnetic strip along the top of the rack, and THAT should hold them...

All this clearing out...left a Big Empty..

833280137_Toolchestrehabthebigempty.JPG.79d27a1bd7b3cad08eabc35bd66a454b.JPG

Hmmm.  Anyway..re-arranged the main Plane til..

5256150_Toolchestrehabtildetails.JPG.5e0a98c4aedff3bc02b2844d89378c65.JPG

And found some room for the two Stanley No. 8s...but, a lot of the #3 and #4 sized planes got "evicted" as a bunch of Jack planes got moved around, too..

So..where did all the little guys wind up at?

685197205_Toolchestrehabparkinglot.JPG.c5c2bf8c2c2445d3e82415b26d68d28b.JPG

Might build a shelf or two above these, and line them up a bit better?

So far..

195029594_Toolchestrehabrestockedtil.JPG.1593fc73d909f0ad71dd46ca80ffb204.JPG

Plane Til has been revamped...Drawers hold "extra" block planes..next..

75252465_Toolchestrehabrightsidedone.JPG.83b71c3c24292353c4b7000e6ea43f02.JPG

Right side seems to be done, might still bring the other 2 marking gauges over to beside the older two...

Left side?

Done, for now

Have both dovetail saws hanging, and the No. 4 Backsaw, a D8 Panel saw...and 4 coping saws...A speed square and 2 church keys hang above the coping saws...

So far..at least the doors will still shut...:BugEyeSmiley:

Intend to add a couple more....

Quite a collection! Museum quality. Imagine coming across a room like this in 400 years!

Are those Disston hand saws? The long ones?

The 2 longer saws are a Disston D8 rip saw, 28" long, 5-1/2 ppi, "Thumbhole" handle..the other is a Disston D-112 ( a carved handle D-8)

Also on the door, an Atkins No. 10 adjustable back saw, and a D8 ( no hyphen) 10 ppi Panel saw.  These 4 saws are my "Ready Use" saws.....

Have the materials to start making some shelves, today...IF I do manage to get to the shop....
