December 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Wife told me the other day I'd made an ornament several years ago that she just loves and that she would like to keep it out all the time. Would I make her a stand for it? I'll say up front, I was kind of shocked when she showed which ornament she was talking about as I don't consider one of my better efforts. Anyway, I decided to do an Ashley Harwood stand for it. Watched Ashley's video on it a few times and this is the result. The base is walnut with about a 70/30 mix of red/black aniline dye on it. I had intended to give it to her Christmas morning but anytime I do something I think she'll like I can't wait. This just has spray can gloss lacquer on it. December 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Another excellent project execution Steve. Easy to see why the excitement to present her gift early won out. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I only wish my best efforts turned out 10% as well as your "not one of my better efforts."
December 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Perfect Steve. It is a nice design. I like how the ornament stays close to the footprint of the base.
December 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Really like that shape of the base! Thanks for adding Ashley's video, too.
December 22, 20214 yr Popular Post The first time I saw her she turned a giant table with a humongous base. She turned on the outside of the lathe. Amazing for such a little person.
December 22, 20214 yr Author Popular Post Thanks guys. Ashley gets most of the credit for sure. Her video is very well done, she does a nice job showing the steps and the stand is actually a pretty easy thing to do. She already did the hard part, coming up with the idea. December 23, 20214 yr Popular Post I made several of those a few years ago but I think I got the idea from American Woodturner and have no idea who did it. The hard part of these is the balance to hold the ornament and gluing the wire in is also important. I did several designs of the base and cannot remember which the wife liked best. Steve glad you found the video to get the brownie points.
