December 17, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_278342 I don't sell a lot but there is a local gift shop that displays my ornaments every year. The birdhouse ornaments have been so popular I didn't do any "traditional" ornaments this season. Wouldn't you know, someone asked if there would be any "un birdhouse" ornaments this year? She told me on Thursday, told her I'd try to have her five by Saturday. Hopefully the person will see something they like. These will get one or two more coats of finish. December 17, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_278354 Nice as ever Steve. You sent me this one, center screen, has to be 10 or 12 years ago and it is still my favorite. That makes me partial to the one fourth over from the left. Report
December 17, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_278361 All are very nice Steve, but like Lew I really like the one on the far left, but the one on the far right runs a photo finish for second. Not surprised the demand for your work is high. Report
December 18, 20214 yr Author comment_278396 Thanks everyone! Dan, can it possibly be that long ago? Time slips away doesn't it? Report
December 18, 20214 yr comment_278424 Great batch and done so fast. Like everyone else the left one catches my eye. Report
December 20, 20214 yr comment_278536 Watch your making the plywood blank video. Do you have a video that shows how you hollow them out? Left one is the winner in my eyes too. Report

Left one is the winner in my eyes too. Thanks Pat. I did not do a video of that process. Only because there are dozen of others who have already done that. I know Mike Peace and Carl Jacobson have a few videos on it between them. I do it pretty much the same as everyone else. I will say, I don't get real concerned about getting them super thin, just want to remove a little weight, anything 1/8" or less works for me. Edited December 20, 20214 yr by Steve Krumanaker Report

Life goes allot slower when you have so many things to do just to stay on this side of the dirt. Been trying to keep busy in the shop but get tired much faster and start to get sore and need to take constant breaks. Report

I can definitely understand that and will look those men up on YT. As a total novice to this type of work I wonder why you wouldn't cut away some of the material b4 glue up? In my mind it would reduce the hollowing type tremendously? Just like when guys cut the corners to a 45 to minimize time to make blanks round? Report

That's a good thought and something I hadn't ever considered. After thinking about it though, I believe it might actually take longer to notch each segment separately than it does to hollow out a globe. It only takes a few minutes or so to hollow one. Report
