Coming along nicely Aaron. You probably have shown before, but what tools do you use for this type of letter carving? The lines seem so fine and crisp.

Out of a tool and die shop in Illinois (maybe Indiana I can't remember :ChinScratch:)

So the "pen" is fine point metal scribe? Then you go back over with a fine point pen to ink?

The tool shown is a double ended scribe. One fine point end,...one with a wider taper. I almost always start with the fine end...depending on what I'm after if I choose to widen the channel to accept more ink with the fatter end of the tool. If any of that makes sense.

It does and thanks for the picture demo. Besides good eye sight, takes a steady hand...even more so when you go to ink not to mention the patience. I'm lacking all those attributes anymore.:P Thanks I appreciate you giving me basic understanding.

I just saw the 2nd half of your question...the ink is India Ink out of a bottle..applied with a Q-tip then wiped off. What isn't wiped away settles in your scribed lines.

That makes sense. I thought you used India ink, just wasn't sure it would wipe off the horn without leaving a stain or discoloration. I'm enjoying following along. Very interesting.

Yes sir,..little alcohol on a shop towel and she wipes pretty clean. Get rid of the extra smokey look with a quick buff of fine steel wool.

Awesome work Aaron! :Praise::Praise: I suspect one happy client.

Will this be a user piece in re-enactments or a display piece?

Thanks for taking us along and providing the enlightenment to this craft.

This is a user. Actually it is already a user, it's been an active piece for quite a few years. It just came to me for some ink.

Yes sir I'm just fine and thanks for asking. Been busier than usual at work last 3 or 4 weeks and also just the added tasks of mowing and weedeating in summer has kept me busy with all the rain. I'm located in south central Ky in Grayson Co and we are doing A-ok. I've been itching to get back on some fun stuff and hope to starting Thursday and get back on track. I also got a new phone and haven't logged in yet with it but have been checking on post and projects of others with that at work.
