Popular Post Steve Krumanaker Posted July 24, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted July 24, 2021 Sometimes things just don't like a person would hope, this bowl fought me at every stage. It cracked, I made a rookie mistake when fixing the crack and got some staining, then, didn't sand as well as I should have. Still, I like the shape of it and the bottom pattern turned out well. I'll keep this one and learn from it. It's maple, about 8" diameter and only about 2 1/2" inches deep. One coat of antique oil in these pics, it'll get 3 or 4 more coats. Popular Post Gerald Posted July 25, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted July 25, 2021 Steve nice bowl and I have an idea to save it. Since you are good at woodburning, how about a stipple pattern on the rim and then maybe a flower or vine where the crack and stain is on both sides? Gunny, lew, FlGatorwood and 3 others 6 Quote

Such a good idea Gerald but unfortunately I now have a few coats of antique oil on it. Trying to burn on it now would just make a mess. Should have posted it sooner and asked for suggestions, yours is a good one. Gunny, DuckSoup, Gerald and 4 others 6 1 Quote
Popular Post HandyDan Posted July 25, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted July 25, 2021 It is still a nice looking bowl. The flaw is not real noticeable especially to the untrained eyes. Steve Krumanaker, Gunny, DuckSoup and 2 others 5 Quote
lew Posted July 25, 2021 Report Posted July 25, 2021 As @HandyDan said, the flaw is probably only noticeable to you. Love the shape and proportions. What did you use to try to repair the crack? Gunny, DuckSoup, Steve Krumanaker and 1 other 4 Quote

What did you use to try to repair the crack? I used black medium CA glue. Normally I would've sealed around the area first to prevent staining. In this case I thought I still had enough material to turn any staining away, obviously I was mistaken! FlGatorwood, DuckSoup, p_toad and 1 other 3 1 Quote

FlGatorwood Posted July 26, 2021 Report Posted July 26, 2021 Shoot! I thought the long stain was intentional. I think it all looks very good. Do we get to see the finished product? Steve Krumanaker and Gene Howe 2 Quote
Gene Howe Posted July 26, 2021 Report Posted July 26, 2021 Looks good from here. Steve Krumanaker and FlGatorwood 2 Quote
