@Gerald Pretty wood! Hope it doesn't crack as it dries.

 

I don't remember why I started using the expansion/mortice method of bowl mounts but I really do prefer the method. It seems to fit into the way I like to finish off a bowl bottom/foot.

I started using this after a class with Jimmie Clewes in 2019. Once you learn that it does not have to be the full depth of the chuck jaws and leave the proper amount of space on the shoulder it is much more versatile than a tenon., And easier to finish.

I agree.  I exclusively use a recess.  I have always felt safer using that method.
