June 1, 20214 yr Popular Post In fact, it only just qualifies as turning at all, very simple and easy. We have a spare umbrella stand on our patio and we only use it for an umbrella when the kids are visiting, mostly on holidays. I had an idea and turned a piece of scrap 2X4 to fit inside the umbrella stand. Painted it black and added a couple plant hangers. Simple, simple, and easy, peasy but with current lumber prices it might be the most expensive thing I've ever turned!!
June 2, 20214 yr That should have been pressure treated for that price. I recommend going to a lumber yard rather than one of the big box stores for lumber. I heard today that the futures prices for lumber is up over 300 per cent. There is going to be a lot of loud squealing when the prices fall.

June 2, 20214 yr The price jump for Doug Fir framing lumber has created a very difficult situation for builders. At four times the cost it’s going to be difficult to build a house and make a profit. Who could imagine that framing lumber would exceed the cost of some hardwoods like soft maple and alder. Strange times. Paul
June 2, 20214 yr Its only going to get more expensive before the price starts to drop again, I think it will start hopefully dropping once the economy starts opening back up but we can only hope. I paid about 17 bucks for 1 4x4.
