May 18, 20215 yr Popular Post Another box elder hollow form. Did this one using the camera setup. I can safely say, I'll never willingly go back to a laser. The camera set up is a vast improvement. I wanted to leave a natural edge at the top of this and I feel that went ok, about 3/8" thick, 1/4" would've been better but I got chicken. Overall, I'm happy with it but I feel the bottom could be better, a little more round I think. It's going to move as it dries anyway so we'll see how it ends up. My hollowing rig is home made but I did purchase Lyle Jamieson's tool bar. The tool holders he supplies are designed for high speed steel cutters. I made a couple that use a 12mm carbide insert. That was also a big improvement.

May 19, 20215 yr Turned out well and looks like it is thin in the middle, or is that some irregularity in the blank.

This wood doesn't have a lot of integrity and some of the cambium tore out under the bark. Not sure if I'll leave it or try to fudge in some pieces of bark after it dries.
May 21, 20215 yr Very nice. I have seen videos of the camera method and it looks pretty slick. If I ever get into hollow forms I will go that way. Edited May 21, 20215 yr by RustyFN
