December 18, 20205 yr Popular Post to our friend @Gunny. A couple weeks back he asked if I needed a drill press, a nice 8" Delta that he was "surplusing". While I did not need one, I did tell him I was interested in it for our son who is just getting his shop put together. His reply? Come get it! On Wednesday I paid Gunny a visit, picked up the drill press and he also threw in a routa sketch for our son. Many thanks Gunny, we really appreciate it!

December 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Kudos to both of you. It was a win-win. Thanks for a good heart warming story on a cold night. I thought John was going to make this a romance story. LOL
December 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Hey @Cal what is the story behind the license plates, 50 state collection?
December 20, 20205 yr Author Popular Post @DuckSoup - To make a long story short, when our son was 10 y.o. I needed a few license plates for a project I had doing and he went with me to a couple junkyards. When my project was finished he wanted the rest to trade with other people on the (then to me) new thing called internet. And it blew up from there. We made monthly trips to the junkyards that would let us collect. He traded with people all over the world! And over the next 7-8 years amassed quite a collection to include his complete birthyear (1988) run from U.S., Canada & Australia, and a few other odds n ends from 1988 and a run for his sister. This was part of his teenage bedroom: It was a great hobby for him at the time. Fairly cheap as most tags were obtained by trade and only involved postage. Sometimes it took 5 or more GA tags to get one in return, but that's supply & demand. He made friends around the world. And he learned something about each state/country with every trade which helped him in school. The tags shown in my original post are just a few of the wildlife themed tags hanging in the shop. I do have a complete 1998 year run from U.S. and Canada on the opposite wall. Sadly, the hobby doesn't hold much for me anymore. Insurance regulations closed off most of the junk yards from allowing me to just walk through them. A couple yards have closed and it's just not as much fun going alone. And too, GA changed their tag system to where you keep your tag and transfer it to your new car; it used to be it went with the car so if the car ended up in the junkyard the odds were probably 90% that the tag was still on it, today it's reversed and maybe 10% of the cars in there have a tag. But, it was great fun while we were in it together during his teen years. Thanks for asking about it.
December 20, 20205 yr Popular Post You did a good thing Gunny ! (Said with caution). One of the last times I said something warm and fuzzy to a Gunnery Sargent was at Field Medical School, Las Pulgas, Camp Pendleton. It didn't end well for me LOL. Paul
