October 20, 20205 yr Popular Post I recently got a Cedar board for a small box container. I wondered what it would be like to turn. I started turning and my shop turned into a very aromatic zone. I know it keeps moths out of you closets and I also it is not a good idea to breath the dust, so I had all my protection on. I had only turned a small piece and was wondering what I would do with it. Then my wife pulled the car in the garage (my shop) and immediately loved the smell. She asked what I was going to do with the turned piece. I said I had not figured that out yet, so she said "I want it" I think it will go either in a closet or in her sewing room. Probably put a hook on it so she can hang it just about anywhere. Gotta keep mama happy. Edited October 20, 20205 yr by Ron Altier add picture

October 20, 20205 yr I'm interested to know how well cedar actually turns.... Because I've got a Spanish Cedar bowl blank sitting in my house at the moment. Still un decisive about it.

I will turn one with regular cutting tools. You don't have to turn them, I made this one using a step drill for max surface area and drilled from both sides.
October 21, 20205 yr You can also just bag the shavings in a thin fabric bag and use that in drawers. No bugs.
October 21, 20205 yr Popular Post Nicely done. That is some beautiful wood. One word of caution regarding cedar and clothing, it will cause yellow staining on clothing. You may wish to use a piece of wax paper to separate the cedar from the clothing. When the aroma dies off, use a piece of sandpaper to remove the crust to allow the aroma to exit the wood. With Gerald, I have used baby socks to put shavings in so we can stuff it into drawers. To reactivate the aroma, just give it a few squeezes.

My neighbor was a bartender and he sold a liquor that came in a purple velvet drawstring bag. Beautiful bag to fill with cedar shavings to put in a drawer.
