October 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Can a man have too many tool boxes? There was a time when I would have said "no way"... A few months back I won an auction for a bunch of tool boxes at a school auction, machinist tool chests and boxes - about 40 of them!!! Most all of them are in decent shape, all of them are servicable. Three very nice Kennedy boxes, two are two drawer like in the first pic, one a 7 drawer chest. Two very old Kennedy Kits boxes. A couple old Craftsmans, a bunch of Modern Industries 7 drawer chests, a bunch of Waterloo smaller boxes and a batch of no name boxes. Holy cow!!! I bought them based on the auction pics. I spent the weekend going through them, vacuumed, cleaned a few of the sliders. I have kept out the good Kennedy's and a few others for myself, my son, the wife wanted one and fixing to put the rest up for sale. I watched a good You Tube last night of a partial resto of an old Kennedy Kit box just like one of mine. I may keep that one also, it really cleaned up nice in the video and my box is as nice or nicer than what he started with. So this week I will be working tool boxes and doing more yard work. Beautiful weather happening right now, I surely want to take advantage of it and spend most of my daylight hours outside. Edited October 19, 20205 yr by Cal
October 19, 20205 yr Back to the lathe. My bowl drying experiment was a miserable failure. Need to make 2 more little bowls and try again.
October 19, 20205 yr Popular Post I wish you lived closer, I would buy one. I only have (6) tool boxes. Danl
October 19, 20205 yr Nice haul Cal...Some times I would end up at home after an auction and wonder how I ended up with my hand up in the air when the sold song rang out so many times...and a few times I still kick myself for not buying a few lots here and there.. The one thing I sur wish I had brought home was a contraption I never seen before ...It was very old and it was to hold a wood lathe chisel and probably mostly to carve out the inside of a bowl. It had wheels to turn for up and for down and sideways. I tried to find something like that on line and maybe a good thing I didn't. I might still have bruises on my bod.
October 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Well, the house now has HEAT! Took the guys most of Saturday to yank the old furnace out, and install a brand new one..... Have started cutting up a block of Rosewood...to repair a few plane handles....from this.. To... This...same handle as above... As for it being a MondayI'd rather be hibernating..

October 20, 20205 yr Popular Post About 4 weeks ago I had a project engineer I used to do work for call me and ask me to come in and help figure out how to smooth out aa air conditioner assy line that wasn't keep up with their anticipated production rate. It was designed and built by a competitor as we were to busy to get it done on his schedule a year or so ago. I found several areas that needed work. I ended up concepting and laying out the solutions. My old company is finalizing the design and making the changes so I have been pretty busy. But I got a pretty nice five figure check. I did however find time to work on a small cabinet, am almost done weaving the seat on a Danish bench as well as come close to getting my stained glass project done. By the time I get all of that done I will get to work on a set of barrister book shelves for my daughter's new law office. So, I have been pretty active for an old guy. October 20, 20205 yr Popular Post Hoping this week ends a chapter and begins a whole new one for us. In a few days, we'll be without internet for a while so, my posts will be very infrequent. Maybe, one of our grandkids can show me how to post with a cell phone.
October 20, 20205 yr Did Dan just "like" the fact you will be without innernet????? Seriously, congrats and I hope it cools down for the move. When we moved here it took 4 weeks to get the internet connected, and at the time we didn't have a cell phone.

No OLD guys here , just extremely (means a long time) experienced and knowledgeable (means been there done that and this is what i learned about repeating it) @Gene Howe ain't it amazing how much we depend on internet to occupy our minds? October 20, 20205 yr Popular Post @Gerald, yes indeedy. Especially the last few weeks. But, methinks occupying my mind for the next few weeks won't be a problem.
