October 10, 20205 yr Popular Post What do you mean it's Saturday the 10th? Yesterday was Thursday, wasn't it? ...Man has this year got me screwed up! Not a lot going on around here,...So... What's on your weekend agenda?
October 10, 20205 yr Popular Post A beautiful fall day in central NY. A little outside work, the a ride in the old convertible. The rest of the weekend - haven't been informed yet.
October 10, 20205 yr Headed to the mountains for some coolness. Still waiting for our new place to close. Hopefully by Wednesday. Our home's buyer is waiting on her home's buyer to get his loan paperwork finished. Quicken loans ain't quick.
October 10, 20205 yr Popular Post Waiting on Lunch to settle, before a trip to the shop....and go and hide out all day long....

But, as much as I would like to have it the space constraint is killing me. Mine will be in a small cubby hole between wall and a toolbox. The first section has been designed, and all the pieces manufactured. They are all in the finishing room currently. Be a few days before I have anything to show for that garage engineering. Second section has been designed and prototype pieces made as templates for actual pieces. Probably have some work in progress pictures tomorrow. Just have a mock up so far with a few minor kinks to work out. This section has to be adjustable to fit all my current clamps of various types and sizes under 40 inches. It got complicated quickly when I threw that monkey wrench into the works.
October 10, 20205 yr Popular Post Trying to see how best to lay a few chisels into a box... Dry fit.. Always seem to get one loose corner....3 hours IN the shop....

October 11, 20205 yr Nearing completion of the re-do of the dining area. Need to hang and trim out a closet door today. Did tune into the UGA game yesterday. Tenn was giving us fits for most of the game, but they ran out of steam allowing us to pull ahead take the win. Next up, AL next Saturday...
October 11, 20205 yr Hit a snag yesterday. Went to put in a screw and it sparked as I finished driving it home. Surprised I went to the diagram again (previous owner built the shop and made a electrical diagram). Nope no wires there, says wires at the top. Well something is in there and now the outlets on back half of shop don't work. Okay, took down pegboard and all the other stuff I had jammed on that wall. Found diagram was wrong, small surprise. Thankfully the guy left alot of extra wire curled up in wall. So I cut it at the point where the screw went through, moved the hole back from 1/8 inch from the edge of the 2x4. And put in an outlet on back wall, where both ends would meet and also just happens to be an open spot. Got lucky on that one. Since I had this wall open I figured hey, I could use a couple more studs right here. They would provide more support points for my clamp rack. So I added those as well before closing the wall back up. Now I have studs in that corner every 11 inches. Don't know why the guy that built this place liked 24 inch on center, or why he thought 23-24 was a range. Pick one and stick with it ya know??? Either way I have a 6 foot section of well braced wall, and a diagram that has been updated. As for the clamp holder #2, Did not get a bloody thing done for all the screwing around with the broken wire in the wall. Figures right??

October 11, 20205 yr Popular Post when I built my shop 5 years ago, my architect went with 2x6 framing on 24" centers. little less lumber needed, and more space for insulation. theory being that a 2x stud will conduct more heat thru the wall than will 5-1/2" of insulation. after a few cold winters, i have seen this to be correct. on a frosty morning, you can make out where the studs are by the differing amounts of frost on the exterior stucco. he also added 2" of polystyrene insulation on the exterior, so the walls are about 9" thick overall. very comfy come winter.

October 11, 20205 yr Popular Post Spent part of today pulling burner and filters from furnace to check them before heating season starts. Filters AND burner were quite clean - put it all back together and fired it up... let it run for a few minutes and turned the thermostat back down. Don't need it at 80 unless the MIL is here. then went out and mixed up some new 2 cycle gas and fired up the old leaf blower for its first workout for the season. It ran fine - i was pooped.
