June 29, 20206 yr Popular Post Building a cabinet for back of a police SUV. Carcass is assembled now on to the two drawers. 36 inch deep! Yeah drawer slides cost the guy about $225 for 3 pair. One 22 inch wide drawer gets dual slides. Will be full of paperwork and other heavy stuff.

June 29, 20206 yr Popular Post Thank you, John. I really love those work benches in that classroom. It draws me right in. And, I learned a couple things. Today has been rather busy. First thing, labs for doctor visit next week. Then cooked breakfast for wife and grandchildren, did some laundry and glued in the fabric in the band saw box. Then packed and shipped it today. Tomorrow, will get to turn the first of the 17 pens. I think everything is ready. Waiting one some holders from Rockler which should be here Friday. I will get the pens in those pen holders and mail to Tom in Idaho. Trying to talk him into returning to our fun spot. Who knows what ideas will pop into her little head that will put up a couple road blocks for my production.
June 30, 20206 yr Popular Post Still doing nothing but waiting on skin to grow on my fingers I injured. They are improving and I’ve got the skin growing department working overtime! I can finally take the bandages off while in the house. Have to cover them any time I go out to keep from getting an infection. Just thankful they are still there and getting better. Working on getting the joints to bend again.

Still looks plenty painful.
June 30, 20206 yr Popular Post So glad to see that you are mending, John. That looks so much better than before. Now, you can binge watch YouTube, all sorts of things and even supervise without getting your hands dirty.
June 30, 20206 yr Popular Post Got the last coat of finish on this dining table for the furniture bank. Been picking away at it at home. All the wood is salvaged from give-aways / trash bin of a couple of production shops. Would you believe there are three different woods in there, all from my lumber stash? Top is a part sheet of 3/4" walnut ply. I had to work around some defects like black water stains, dents, and scratches. Top is actually the "B" side because it had less damage. Aprons are out of lyptus, because that's what I had and only a piece or two left and nothing else to do with them. Legs are poplar that was about the only 8/4" stuff I had, though it was glued up strips. I applied some dark walnut Danish oil to everything and let it dry a few days. Apron and legs were not dark enough, so after a coat of finish, I applied some "Warm Brown" glaze to enhance the color. Then 3 more coats of finish (4 on the top). Will get delivered tomorrow or Monday depending on which vehicle it fits in. Will end up going to a client coming out of homelessness and being set up in a home.
June 30, 20206 yr Popular Post Keith that is a great table. Buffed out a couple bowls finished in Tung oil yesterday. Back to finish turning more bowls today. Took the truck in for service and upper ball joints today. Getting really hot here so not much outside work getting done.
June 30, 20206 yr Popular Post ...I must have lost a few days somewhere! Sorry about missing doing last Fridays post. ...In all actuality I've been trying to beat the HHH (Hazy, Hot, & Humid) weather. Didn't succeed. Since my last post I've made ramps, reinforced the corners where the doors mount, and installed electric in the Greenhouse/Shed plus washing down the inside, along with more mowing. First the ramps. These can be moved from end to end, and fit both the zero turn, along with the walk behind, and string mower. The next few photos show the added bracing where the doors mount to the end walls. The center of the ends were bowed out about 3/4" at the center from top to bottom. I ran the 2 x 4's the full length of the opening, and tied them to both the floor, and upper wall sections. You can also see the hardware I replaced the original plastic door latches with. I'll make plugs for the old latch holes when I dig out my hole saws. The original lower locking mechanism was actually pretty useless they were designed, and mounted to the wrong door. The circuit panel was salvaged from a camping trailer. The conduit, and the conduit boxes I had on hand. I've got to get photos of the finished work with all of the outlets, and lights installed. I (SWMBO) wanted an outdoor light, so... I went through my boxes of stashed parts, and came up with... ...Sure beats $99.98 at Menards for a repro.
July 1, 20206 yr Popular Post Spent part of the afternoon watering the poison ivy out front. Just as i finished my neighbor got home and talked with him for a while and then decided i owed myself a cold one. Hit the spot.
July 1, 20206 yr Popular Post Started some dry fit assembly of this cabinet for the back of my friends Police SUV. Got the weapons drawer assembled enough to dry fit for slide operation. Worked well, slides are plenty strong. Now take back apart and do some edge banding and pre-finish work. That drawer is 36 inches deep. And heavy. The other drawer is twice as wide. It gets two pairs of drawer slides. Because while one pair is rated for the weight, two is better.
July 1, 20206 yr Popular Post Larry, that light in that position is a great idea. And, it reminds me of city street lights back in the 1940's through early 1960's. There were only at the intersection and I knew some boys used their BB guns to shoot them out. What memories. Gunny, can hardly wait to see the final product. Edited July 1, 20206 yr by FlGatorwood
July 1, 20206 yr How hard was (or is) it to get the 2 pairs of slides aligned? Seems like it would have to be darn near perfect to work. Edited July 1, 20206 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr
July 1, 20206 yr ...I do believe I'll move the potting bench (in the first photo) to the outside wall. Then I'll have to go through my lumber stash to see if I have enough lumber to make a machine bench for some of my old machines. Turns out this bench frame is the same depth as the potting bench! ...Lathe across the rear with motor, & line-shaft below. Drill Press center front, Band Saw, & Scroll Saw facing ends across the front. ...Works for me! Edited July 1, 20206 yr by Larry Buskirk
