Not bad, is there anything special about them verses a normal Dado stack?  Size??  center hole?

 

I have been drooling over a couple sets for my Delta for a year now, had other things that were NEEDS like the mortgage and power bill verses WANTS like dado sets, new toolbox, bigger shop...….

I bought the set when I bought the SS. Now I have no other experience to compare them to, but I liked them. Used them to make the half lap cuts for the Crosses. Bottom of the cut was very uniform.

I got the small Freud set and have been well satisfied with its function and durability. Also it is much cheaper , like half the SS price. But a point for SS is that they are full size blades and Freud is wings . Looks like the SS is 5/8

@Gerald, my set is a Freud, also. The wings don't seem to affect performance. Plus, they make it lighter. I had a full bladed set from Tenryu and, a 3/4" set up really put a strain on my Shopsmith. Artie, with his DVR motor, would not have any issues, though.

My impression of Shopsmith is they make everything they sell, Made in the USA. I may be wrong or not on that point, if anyone would wish to clarify I'd greatly appreciate it. On that same line of thought, if they do make everything they sell, is the dado stack made by SS too? Or, is it made by another company and SS puts their brand on it?

 

Edit: Duh, I knew this, I don't know why I asked. Dado is made by CMT (is CMT Made in the USA?). As is much of their cutting and boring tools made by a reputable manufacturer.

 

I guess what I was saying by they make everything themselves, I am talking about everything related to the function of the machine itself, such as attachments and accessories, do they make all of those?

John, Shopsmith used to make the majority of their products in house. However, for the past several years, quite a few items have been outsourced. To my knowledge, all still made in the US of A.

You might pose your questions to the guys over on the Shopsmith forum. They are much more knowledgeable about the Shopsmith history and current practices. Some might even say they are obsessed. Not that that's a bad thing.

Some Shopsmith blades are made in Germany or England.  Still good stuff.  All made to Shopsmith specs.  Most are still made in USA.  

 

I have a dado set that Lowe's used to carry.  It has chippers and shims.  It is 10" with 5/8" bore.  If memory serves correctly, the ones offered in this sale are 5/8" bore with a diameter of 6".  The two outside blades are quiet traditional, but the chippers are more than 2 tips per blade.  I can't remember if they are 8 or 10 chippers per blade.  And, you get the shims to make it the width you desire.  I have used my dado set several times, and I always have to use a chisel to get it clean.  My set cost all of $50 as a clearance.  I don't mind using the chisel.  It gives me the opportunity to custom fit my boards.
