Afternoon gents,....I've landed here from central KY. I'm pretty well versed with the forum concept from other interest and was looking for a place to bend the ears of knowledgeable folks on some woodworking. I lurked a while before registration and liked what I saw. My interest vary...did some taxidermy years ago,.currently my hands are usually on some bone or antler carving or scrimshaw or pen and ink drawing,..or a powder horn,..or well,...like I said,.it's complicated. My woodworking skills are pretty basic ,...I use my share of power tools but moving forward I have a keen interest in old school hand tools....especially exploring the joinery aspect. I have refinished a sack full of old axes and such,..I love to hand sand,..and bringing out the figure in wood such as tiger maple,..curly ash,..etc. There you have it,..I'll be posting some inquiries in the appropriate places shortly. Best Regards, -Aaron

Aaron, first and foremost welcome to TPW.  If you’re a hand tools guy you’ll be right at home here. I’m guessing you and Bandit (aka Steve Newman will hit it off right proper.  Be sure to post pictures of your projects because we love pictures.

Ron,..you have apparently already figured me out. I just took a quick trip to the gallery to look around,..first 2 things I clicked on were made by Mr. Newman. That fancy pine box is STRAIGHT up my alley....in style and execution. Loved that quaker chair that was posted by  JMorris also. Some skilled fellas in here..

We try.  BTW, be sure to check out Allen Worsham.  He lives in Bowling Green and is a recent California transplant to the Bluegrass State.

Hope you'll be OK with all the rain headed your way.

Far as I know,..we've had plenty this year like everybody else but last few weeks have been real hot. Me personally I'll take it.....I'm a winter guy. I hate hot weather with a bloody passion...rain and overcast sounds great.

Hi Aaron, and welcome. I be a newcomer to woodworking, so ya don’t want to be asking no questions on that stuff. I’m an electrician so questions on that I do pretty good at LOL

Welcome to the crew Aaron. If you love sanding try @John Morris he says it is funsitting and sanding.:throbbinghead:

Be sure to show us some pictures, we love pics.

Nice hatchet work Aaron, after the refinish, what do you use them for? Bushmastering, carving, general work? Beautiful hatchets.

Heres a Euro mount on tiger maple I did for a friend of mine,...and a maple hand plane refinish. I told you boys I like stripey things. The inside pic of the skull mount is actually a bit more accurate. That sun knocks out a lot or contrast.
