I've met some nomadic RVers.  It sounds interesting. but not that practical for a woodworker, unless you were limited to carving or small turnings.  Or a woodshop trailer and understanding campground management.  I have known a couple of snowbirds that have 2 shops.   I'm afraid what I needed next would always be at the other shop.

so give them a vast quanity of it and we'll be by to pick up the tools...

problem solved...

I liked it from an engineering point, but I would think from a monetary point you would get more bang for the buck converting a trailer to a similiar workshop.

I would think that a trailer would have a longer lifespan.  For a long project (e.g., a house remodel, you might just leave it onsite for the duration).   Keep the wheel bearings lubed and the wires intact.   But then I see commercial vans on sale on the internet with 300,000 miles on them.  One problem with a trailer is that it is a little less maneuverable and easier to disappear during the night.  Well, OK, 2 things.

We live in a very low crime area but I'll be darned if I'd tempt fate by leaving a trailer on site over night.

One thing that I've heard about the Nissans from a guy that installs carpet cleaning machines in vans -- he says the sheet metal is very thin and does not hold the screws well.  Don't know if they still have the problem, but Sprinters (Mercedes, Freightliner, or Chrysler depending on where and when you bought it) seemed to have sheet metal rust issues.   I could tell if they were more than a couple of years old because the body would have rust spots all over them.    The new Chrysler/Dodge seems to be a Fiat model.  I once owned a Fiat and would NEVER buy another.   It was the worst 11 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, and 6 hours of car ownership I've ever had.  Fiat = Fix it again, Tony.    I'd probably opt for the Ford Transit.

Wise man. When I first started watching American Pickers, they drove a Mercedes van. When Mike's brother got tired of running all over the country to fix that van, he convinced them to get the Transit. They seem quite happy with it. More headroom and cargo space.

Sponsorship $$'s was my guess.

May be so. Mike's always looking for a buck.

I just think for same amount of dough, one could get a bigger trailer, and need less custom equipment to outfit it. Also by being a trailer probably a whole lot less federal regulations, here.
