January 1, 20197 yr Popular Post A lady in my Sunday School class is doing a scrapbook for her grandson as a graduation present and wanted me to make a box . This is the box with BLO only so far.
January 1, 20197 yr Good looking box. The raised panel and the hand holds are classy. How'd you do the box joints? Edited January 1, 20197 yr by Gene Howe
January 1, 20197 yr Great looking box Gerald. You do awesome "flat-work" too! Is the lid removable or hinged?
January 1, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Box joints are made with a Porter Cable Omnijig, Raised panel with a vertical raised panel bit and the surround rails and stiles with Sommerfield mini raised panel set. The set has a nice panel raiser but my large router died on me and I do very few panels.

January 1, 20197 yr Somehow, I doubt that operator error or lack of skill had anything to do with the router failure.
January 1, 20197 yr That's fantastic! Maybe it is the viewing angle but how did you get the box joints to be dark on one side but not on it's mating side. Really cool look!

Really cool look! Lew I do not see a dark and light on opposing joints. The end grain only is darker. I started out to make the box portion from one board and then messed up one side so had to use a piece from another board. Not sure even I could tell the difference in color but there is a slight difference in wood grain.
January 2, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Thanks for the comments . Hope to start lacquer today and then more pics. Did shellac inside also as I usually do no finish inside my boxes however being so large thought the shellac inside better

Someone ask about hinges for the top or maybe no hinges I would like to know also. I would like to know the size of your box? I really like the lid with the raised panel. Thanks for showing your box.
January 5, 20197 yr Author Popular Post No hinge. it is about 14 x 13 x 6. Since it will have a scrapbook and the size of the top I thought lift off was best.\ Thanks
January 12, 20197 yr Great job Gerald, I like the color too. I am missing something, why is the top rails lighter if it is the same wood? Herb
January 13, 20197 yr That’s beautiful! You are making me think I need to learn how to make finger joints.
