I have two grandsons and I have tried to get both of them into woodworking and 22 rifles. It must be me. Naw, it ain't you, Hawkeye. I just took him out one day and showed him that he could sand the finish off the ice cream scoop handle. Then in just a few seconds I asked if he wanted to try it. He jumped at the chance. Once he had that feeling of the tug and spin, he was happy to see his results. And, in the most recent picture, he had the sense of satisfaction, even though initially, he did not want to do it. Once he saw what was happening, he jumped right in. No secret to what you are doing. Like every good or bad habit, each individual has to want to. I, too, love seeing the shavings on him and he loved it. I have another use for him and that is the bandsaw. Thank you, John, for the comment about that machine. It is wonderful to have mutiple machines in one contraption without much start up or storage issue.

Be aware, though, that it is a good way to introduce critters, such as bed bugs, into your house. Happened to me, and it took $7000 to get rid of them. Expensive lesson. Tom, what an expensive lesson and let's not think of the amount of new wood you could have acquired for that amount of money without all the frustration of the infestation. I am so sorry for your experience but a great lesson. Another good lesson I have learned about this kind of wood is you do not always know what hardware lurks beneath the surface. We found nailed used to hold in the tenons rather than glue. Yes, I now have to rework the chisel. I am going to make a tool box later with the headboard flat panel. That will be another thread. I hope I can get it done as quickly as Steve does with his hand tools.
