November 25, 20187 yr Popular Post My wife wanted to go to Walmart around 3 pm on black Friday. I didn't want to go because of the expected crowd. I was really surprised, less than normal people there. A clerk told us the crowd was early, when the sales started, I guess at midnight. Next she wanted to stop at HD for lights. That was a mistake. The isles were packed and stacked with merchandise. Those large shopping carts were in the way of passing thru and many just stopped and looked or answered the phone. A handicapped lady in a motorized cart would stop every 4 feet, holding up many others. It seems that 15 small children wanted to see, touch and laugh at the displays. I texted my wife, "I'm in the Jeep" and I was
November 25, 20187 yr I worked at the shooting range Black Friday. Lots of folks out when we opened the doors to come shoot instead of fighting the shopping crowd. Some of the guys said their wives were shopping so they came to the range. Busy all day.
November 25, 20187 yr OK, I did find something. Went into Menards to do some regular shopping and found they had a set of Irwin Forstner bits on sale for $10. I keep a set of "beater" forstners on hand for softwood and so on so I picked up a set. My old set is probably 25 years old and from the old tool distributor AMT (anyone remember them?). Anyway, that set has just about outlived their usefulness so these will make a good replacement (I hope). Interesting, Irwin had their main manufacturing in Wilmington, OH where all my sisters live and used to be known for reasonable quality stuff. They must have been bought out since everything they have is an Asian import. The good news is while these bits don't look all that well sharpened when you feel the edges, they do cut a clean hole (at least once, we'll see about subsequent use).

I bought a AMT Permatrak Mortising Machine, and a 12" disc sander from them quite a few years ago, and I still use them. Edited November 25, 20187 yr by CharlieL

I get home to find out that I forgot to bag something that I've had a sorry slip for, and there was only one on the shelf. Luckily someone else discovered it at the till and the store held it for me until I got back up there about 15 min later. I'll certainly try to make sure I never do that again, and make sure that everything is in the bag before leaving the till ! Edited November 25, 20187 yr by CharlieL
November 25, 20187 yr The special that caught my eye was at HD if a person buys 2 major appliances seems like an automatic 500.00 off!!!!! I know not a lot of folks needs 2 at once but those sitting around waiting for something like this , grab it. I ask last week if I got anything special if I bought 2 water heaters at the same time..., no one does the water heater thing but Lowes did tell me to go to the information desk and get the special 10% off all items veterans card.....I usually show my VA card but she said go get our card...

The advantage to the My Lowes card, which is separate from their credit card, is that once you register your veteran's status on the My Lowes card, your 10% discount shows up automatically at the register, and also when you order on line. Maybe that store has a separate Lowes veterans card, as I've never heard clerks at our stores refer to the My Lowes card as their veterans card. Probably different names for the same card. I emailed Home Depot once, described what Lowes was doing, and asked them if they had any plans to do something similar for on line shopping, and they said they didn't. That surprised me because here, the HD stores have reserved parking places for Purple Heart recipients, and Lowes does not.

Just don't forget which phone number you put in
November 26, 20187 yr When I asked the checker outer how I get a veterans discount, she just asked for my phone number and entered it, done deal. She said it will always be on My Lowes card and Lowes Credit Card. Herb
