Black Friday buys??

Featured Replies

Guys, does anyone plan on making any Black Friday tool buys? Any great deals to be had? I'm looking for a good palm router, with an led light and great reviews.

I bought a Bosch Colt router this morning.  Regular price was $100 (US) and after my veteran discount the price was $71.  My wife asked me if I was feeding my router fetish.  How do I answer?

Where did you buy it? Its only a fetish if you have more than...................................................................................:DevilLaughing:

I haven't seen anything that made me want to run out and grab it.

As if you were answering a question during a Senate Hearing...very carefully.;)

I almost thought about giving it a go and going to Menards, but alas my go gave up. If it wasn't for the all the crazy shoppers, Black Friday wouldn't be so bad.

Black Friday, internet shopping for sure, my wife loves internet shopping for the great Amazon and other deals, we never have gone out into the madness though, we are still enjoying the feeling of being blessed by family and a wonderful dinner, that warmth carries us through for quite awhile and we just don't want to spoil that feeling by going out into the crowds.

Then when things relatively settle down next week, we'll start our main Christmas shopping with our local business's.

As far as major deals for us Woodworkers, I have not looked around much, but by the end of the day I should have something I can share here.

Amen to that

if someone dropped $200 in my lap, i'd buy some extra Beretta 92 magazines (10).

Bueller, Bueller, anyone?

We drove past Walmart last night on the way home, it was already a mad house at about 7:00 PM.

The wife, and I just laughed, and said "No Way" at the same time.

It took us a few minutes just to get past the parking lot entrance with the way the road was blocked.

The parking lot was full with more people trying to get in.

I despise going to Walmart any time for any reason...it would be insane to battle rabid Walmart shoppers in a frenzied state just to get to the one & only checkout line open.

Last year I did that (Menard's on Black Friday), and it will be the last time. Menard's on BF is more insane than any store I've been in. I got what I was after (aluminum work platforms for $10) and then waited in line for 1 hour...swearing that it would be the last time. Walmart, OTOH, started their specials at 6:00 last night, and I went in there this morning around 7:30 and it was calm and cool. This was for some regular stuff, no specials.

We don't go anywhere unless it's absolutely necessary, until after all of the idiots are off the road.

Both the wife and I tend to drive a bit slower especially at night, our aging eyes just aren't what they used to be.

The wife drove last evening, and she was pretty shaken after getting cut off several times just trying to get home.

We got passed by people driving on the shoulder passing several cars at a time, then cutting back into traffic.

Thanks for the reminder John - as if any of "us" need it:)

I do have a question though.  If we shop these sites by linking from here, does TPW receive any benefit from it?  If I am headed over to those sites anyhow, I would sure go through a TPW link to get there if it would help out.

That's very nice of you Cal, no there is no code in the sponsor links that allows a tracker to indicate anything like you are describing. But, what does help us greatly is word of mouth! When you make an order online, in the special instructions or comments field, give us a little yell out, something like "The Patriot Woodworker sent me here" etc etc. That helps greatly.

Thank you for thinking of us Cal, appreciate it!

After seeing a reporters report about the so called "Black Friday" deals, I'm glad we didn't bother going.

The reporter showed where some prices were lower the day before Thanksgiving Day, some items were almost $100.00 more especially appliances, some of the big TV'S were $25-100.00 more, clothing items 10-20% higher also.

His report was not only about "Brick & Mortar" stores, but with the "Online Retailers" as well.

Doesn't sound like such great deals to me.

Just the typical loss leaders I think.

Saw a news segment the other day, some items are overpriced first, then the discount is applied, :Tapping:

John,

Walmart, Amazon, and others were featured in the reporters report. He had used the snipping tool the day before Thanksgiving, and also on Friday, the report was aired last evening.

Saw a "Consumer Alert" either late Wednesday or on Thanksgiving Day advising Black Friday shoppers not to consider any "deals" unless they were marked down at least 40%...anything less likely was no deal and in fact might be higher priced than non sale prices.

I saw a "sale price" price on a Visio TV like ours...it was about $25 more than ours was 4+ years ago. Family Dollar had in their regular weekly sale ad the Atari Flashback or Genesis Classic game consoles for $30 each; Wally World Black Friday sales ad had the same for $49...

I'll wait until after the first of the year when they start dumping things to get them off their tax sheets.
