Latest Wiki Entries

Straight from a wonderful book about "American Woods", by Shelley E. Schoonover, published in 1951, we are moving her out of print, out of copyright contents over to our wiki. There will be two categories for the trees of North America, The Softwoods, and The Hardwoods. See the latest entries at the links below.

getting ready for a fishing tournament..

Weekend did some mowing/ trimming, errands...set-up the campsite last night, grandkids "camped out"; lots of marshmallows, a few graham crackers & Hersey bars were sacrificed.

One trip done to the HS this AM...Two more to go today. Finish last weeks mowing and start over this week. Busy week with Volleyball meets...Really need to get cracking on that garage clean-up I so skillfully avoided last week...remainder TBD especially since temperatures are back in the 90's with Heat Indices 100o+

Got my grill table done and did the mowing yesterday.  Time to relax today.

That's beautiful, @lew

Still piddling in the shop. I'll get this box done...sometime.

cutting and putting up baseboards in my office.  then moving furniture, then finishing putting up baseboards.

came in 3rd of 18 at the IDPA match saturday.  won one stage, stage 1:  from 5 yards, draw from concealment, fire 3 to the body, 2 to the head.  no make up shots.  made all hits (zero down) in 3.33 seconds.  woot.

Working on the details that come at the end of a project.  The little things that keep you from saying, DONE.

Then off to put up a brick corner wall at neighbors.

LOL

...or as they're affectionately known by the curators of vintage farm machinery, "Johnny Poppers.";)

Yep to both counts.

Found out there was an open air flea market for the weekend about 20 minutes from here...considered it this morning until it was 85o at 10 AM; 92o now...I'll pass...most of the same vendors plus many more will be there in ~6 weeks for the annual Covered Bridge Festival; lots of yard/garage sales in the area too....that runs for 12 days...usually much cooler then.

My son, my nephew and I have spent the three day holiday weekend putting vinyl siding and soffits on our home.  Blistering heat and humidity but we’re half done.

Hey Ron, how's your son coming along with his lot project?.

Did a little turning Saturday . On Sunday while we were taking a friends car back found a tree cut down so I stopped and asked for it. Score so went back today with a friend. It is Bradford Pear and measured 24” at the butt. Got most processed today and turned a bowl.6FD930A0-2F82-4F45-A9D0-A424FBF59CEF.jpeg.21aaeb4bc1dd2eca00d960f3ec13165b.jpeg

That's a good sized Bradford Pear. Most don't seem to survive to that size up here. I've had two get to about 18" +/- when severe storms with high winds broke both off about 16" up from the ground.

Happy turning...you always turn some neat stuff with your BP wood.

Yes it is!!

Which half, first half, middle half or last half?

Turned a bowl today. I usually do twice turn , that is rough turn and then return when dry to get round again. This BP was litterally slinging water and the surface was slick like glass. It been a long time since I turned on the first day I get wood home.
