Testing Link Embeds

Featured Replies

Just a quick hit and run testing topic right now. A link embedder, simply copy paste any external link from another website into your topic editor, wait a second, and a preview will appear of the external website you linked too.

Great for the occasional spammer that may post a link to Teds. You'll be able to see a preview of it before you click on it. @Stick486 gave me the idea when he reported a link to Teds, and he accidentally followed it.

Example:

Woodworking Tools -- Shopsmith Woodworking Equipment and Supplies. Welcome to Shopsmith -- Your Lifetime Woodworking Partner. Shopsmith Makes the Shopsmith Mark 7 -- The seven most needed tools for woodworking. The Tool To Start With -- The System You Grow With

I order to create the preview above, I simply copied the url for the shopsmith website into the editor of the topic.

Go ahead and give it a try, in reply to this topic.

One of the drawbacks with this process, is if you try to paste a link inline to a sentence, this will break up your sentence horribly.

Just a test, a link

STICKLEYMUSEUM.COM

Thanks Stick, ya, the hook only works if you paste the raw link, you can however as you found out use our editor to type attractive text, then assign a link to the text. I am curious if folks will take the time to actually do that, I know with the tags feature we have implemented it's not always a welcome feature, and now we are asking folks to link their text the pretty way, like you did in your reply here if they don't want to see the link preview like Cal performed, by the way great job @Cal!

The purpose of this feature is to give folks a chance to preview the link, before they click. Feedback wanted.

Also, I'll move this to the Patriot Pulse for further commentary by others. Thanks!

Keep the feedback coming folks, give it a try, I am not completely happy with this hook, but if enough of you think it's a worthy addition, I can work the kinks out, thanks guys for your feedback.

This hook is too gitchy for showtime, as can be seen with some of the links above. Shuttin it down, will revisit later.
