Straight from a wonderful book about "American Woods", by Shelley E. Schoonover, published in 1951, we are moving her out of print, out of copyright contents over to our wiki. There will be two categories for the trees of North America, The Softwoods, and The Hardwoods. See the latest entries at the links below.

  • Slash Pine (a beautiful pine, this is probably one of my favorite pines, elegant and shapely, I would love to have this in our front yard of our home)
  • Longleaf Pine
  • Jack Pine

MWTCA What's It

Has ended for the month of July, and we'd like to congratulate @HandyDan for his successful research which in turn landed him a beautiful Rob Cosman Dovetail Saw!

And, even though it appears our August What's It mystery is solved thanks to @p_toad, we still have the month of August left in front of us before we can officially announce the winner, so head on over there and give it a hard time! Thanks a lot Peter!

Very minimal shop time over the last two days. Yard tool repairs took precedence. Did manage to run some molding.

Today it's a dr. Appt. That'll shoot the day. Tomorrow, apply some molding....if nothing else breaks.

Attended a picnic Saturday and got some shop time in yesterday.  Working on a work table to put in the radial arm saw slot now that I got rid of it and handle for a special little hammer.

Spamming. Forgot, thanks Lew.

I had a profitable weekend. Sold a jointer and a bookcase.  This week is all about building 3 jewelry boxes and doing a bit of pro bono work for one of our pastors.  Got to fix a contractors mistake.  Actually, more like a train wreck.

Monday...about says it all.     I did manage to get that little box finished up.    Van issues going on now.....may need a lift to Wapak later this month....

May add that box to the Gallery here....as soon as I remember how.   Way too sore right now, to do too much of anything...

Extremely foggy & mid 60's this Monday morning...Ironically, the weather outside was identical....Youngest grandson (4+) started ELA (Early Learning Academy/ school district all day pre-school) today. Will be interesting to hear his thoughts. As late as last night, he "did not want to go to the 'big school', school is stupid, he just wanted to stay home with grandpa or Charley (the new dog)." At least I got mentioned.:D

Saturday removed LS door panel on wife's Jeep to replace the window regulator/motor...it looked fine...further investigation revealed a small popcorn kernel has become lodged under the window switch. My fault for not fully investigating before ordering a new regulator; likely never would have seen it w/o removing the door panel though; reservations were 7:30 P to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary with family.

After church, lunch, errands, troubleshoot daughter's van for no crank...had to replace battery. I did get some tool refurb time in both SA & SU.

This week: volleyball season starts with two home matches (TU&TH); Hair cut & lunch with my brother WE; in between mowing again & yard work.

Not getting to do much outside. Downpours won't permit it. Did manage to mow the lawn Friday. Arthritis in the left hip is really a pain, literally. Doctor visit this Friday, hoping for a cortisone shot.

Congrats, Dave and your better half, celebrating your 45th anniversary. You must have been a teenager when you got married.:) Hope you can return that regulator. At least the job was a little easier to fix. Maybe you should open a garage for all those auto repairs.

Restore Saturday; recuperate on Sunday and start rehab on a Bailey No. 5 with corrugated sole, broken handle, and big ding in the blade.  Never mind all the rust.   mowed some weeds today; intermittent rains promote more weed growth.  waiting for snow.

Thanks Al...time sure has flown by it seems.

:D:lol:...I wasn't but technically she was.:P I do like the story better the way you tell it though.:)

Hope the Dr can help....heat & humidity &/or dampness with lots of rain sure can make the "Ritis" brothers do evil things.

Not much of a weekend . Spent Saturday finishing up some turnings. Spent about 2 hours blowing out dust and vacuming the shop. Started turning and the first blank had a crack, the second I got a catch and blew it up and the last looked so good before I turned a hole in it . So we shall not talk of this Monday again. I may have to join Steven and hibernate on Mondays.

Had a busy weekend doing a Founders Day craft show. It was a good show and very profitable.

It did rain Friday evening but we were dry in the tent and people came out later.

Today has been a busy day in the shop. My son is working on a few pieces for the youth section at church. Today he got the sound booth done. I was the jointer/planer operator.
