Summer is flying by.  Here we are headed into the final weekend in June and we’re looking at Independence Day next week.  Shop wise, I started a small job this week.  I’m building a double sided glass shadow box for a friend of mine.  His dad was a WWII Purple Heart vet and served in the South Pacific.  He was carrying a silk AAF map of Japan with him when he was hot in the arm and I’m building a case for the map.  BTW, the map still bears the blood stains of his father.  Originally we were going to build the case to hang on the wall but with a weight of 24 pounds he opted to make a desk mount.  Unfortunately, I failed in convincing him to let me put UV archival glass in it.  Too costly he felt. Sigh.

 

Anyway, they’re calling for excessive heat warnings for Indiana so I’m planning not to stray far from the A/C.  What’s on your Patriot Woodworker agenda?

Then maybe go out and buy a bit of lumber.     The "A/C' in the van is a 265......2 windows + 65 mph......have to work on my "Taxi Driver Tan"

We are starting a heat wave today and it is supposed to be 90° or near to that for at least the next week.  I will be spending more time indoors which means the basement shop enjoying the air conditioning.

Been in the heat wave all week over 90 every day and low 90's next week. Had to spray the yard with Dawn for fleas this week, oh what fun. Got 4 live oak bowls in the final stages to get ready to finish. Has been a fun week as spent a lot of time getting a new to us computer ready for the turning club to handle video. Need to shoot some lacquer but do not want to open window of shop till heat lets up.

This weekend, try to get into the shop and reorganize. Mama's new car take my shop space now, and I am having issues.

Never heard of this...is it effective? What's the ratio to H₂O...I suspect we'll have an outbreak soon...maybe they'll engage in combat with the mosquitoes and destroy each other.

 

We only have two brown bats that I'm aware...think they are getting pudgy from their high intake of mosquitoes

Already at 105^o Heat Index today...could exceed 110^o next couple of days. I'm only mowing either early morning or late evening. I have about 3 hours left to finish everything this round.

Tonight, oldest grandson has Advancement Ceremony for Cub Scouts...moves from Tiger to Wolf...at local Pizza Hut...probably will be a family ice cream celebration after.

Need to re-bleed the brakes on the truck all around...only bled the front after the brake job...maybe early tomorrow AM. Shop time will be very limited in this extreme heat condition. Anything else TBD.

Went out early today to do some pruning/tidying for an elderly couple who are selling their house. Hurrying to beat the heat, I got a little careless and wound up pruning my left middle finger by mistake. I WOULD take a picture and post it, but don't want anyone to think I'm trying to insult them.   Think I'll do some one-handed clean-up in the shop... it's nice and cool down there!

Wish we could attract a few. The mosquitos are terrible. I heard they gassed one up at the airport before they realized it wasn't a plane!

I grow my tomatoes in Earthboxes, spent yesterday bending cages out of 6x6 concrete reinforcing mesh to keep them contained. Took a lot out of me so all I did this morning was water the vegetable garden and the flower beds, and then a second watering with Miracle Gro. I have a second half yard of shredded mulch that needs to be spread but it's supposed to be in the mid 90's here for the next few days so that may have to wait a bit or get done in real small doses before the sun comes up.
