Friday, June 22, 2018. What's On Your Patriot Woodworker Weekend Agenda?

It’s been a light week here at Above and Beyond WoodWorks. I completed a small bookcase that I have up for sale and I’m mentally thinking through a two sided hanging map display that I have been commissioned to build.   The enjoyment of the week came yesterday when my daughter brought our 12 year old granddaughter and her cousin over to spend the night.  Our daughter is an elementary school art and music teacher and she has a knack for getting dear old dad roped into projects.  Usually, I go willingly.  She brought over a rolled oats container that was half full of hardened epoxy.  Mixed into the epoxy was a random group of colored pencils.  We peeled the cardboard off the outside, mounted it to a faceplate and gave her a lesson in turning.  Remember that I usually turn out of necessity but this was fUn because we did it together.   The bowl had a few air pockets in it but we together.  It’ll be a guitar pick holder so a couple holes won’t hurt it.

As for the weekend, there’s no shop time.  We still have the granddaughter through Saturday and Sunday is worship and the the LOML and I are headed to Indy to a Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan concert.  So gang, What’s on Your Weekend Agenda?

Looks like a weekend in the shop.  It is raining now and is supposed to continue until Monday.  Should finish up the the thread cabinet today and maybe do some turning after that.

Ron, be sure to show us your granddaughter's finished turning. There's a few YouTube videos of turned colored pencils in epoxy. They are really neat.

The mesa shop will only see sporadic activity for the next couple of weeks. Gotta spend a few hours going to the upholstery shop in Showlow today. Tomorrow, I can get a bit done before we need to go back to Showlow for a 50th wedding anniversary party...not ours.

Sunday and Monday will see all anal cavities and arm joints, then we take off for muggy Branson MO. Probably won't get back till around 6/15. Sure glad we don't rely on the shop for income or, we'd be going hungry this year.

Have fun, enjoy the show & be safe. As my mom always used to tell my brother & me, "be careful...there are a lot of nuts out there!":P

Bookcase came out great...like Gene said, we need pictures of the finished bowl.

Summer Swim Awards/Recognition Banquet tonight & Conference meet most all day tomorrow...REALLY need to mow but the grass (& sky for that matter) hasn't been close to dry for 4 days and forecast doesn't look promising for a couple of days. Church Sunday...any free time TBD.

About as little as I can get away with....even less IF they let me..

Starting the trial of blood thinners this evening, then get tested on ..Monday.   Getting set up for the EPS/ Ablation next month.

Too rainy around here, to do too much rust hunting...

Standing out in the sun watching for new sprouts to show themselves on the transplants. Amazing what the hot sun over head along with some wet roots can accomplish...

I also have to change the location of the cat food for a momma fox showed up with her 4 little ones so I'll start using the metal saw horse again. Its close to the window at night. I do have a light hanging over the food so we can watch how the cats and the foxes inter-mingle. Amazing how both species respects each other..

Steven: I wish you luck with the blood thinners. I have been on them since 1986 and do well with them. I take warfarin or Coumadin or Jantoven. I take 12.5 mg four days a wk and 3.0 three days a week.   I have side effects but it beats looking up at grass roots.

I get lots of bruising from my thinners, but it beats the alternative hands down.;)

Not a lot of bruising. But, red spots like blood blisters. I'm on cumadin plus a tiny 8mg aspirin every day. Tiny cuts sure bleed a lot. That's a nuisance. Glad, I wear a beard.

An old country Dr had me start taking a baby aspirin each day more than 35  years ago. When I got a new Dr here in CO, he said it was a great idea and my veins should be in good shape. As it turned out, a test showed I had less than 6% plug-age. He said that a man my age should have way more than that and aspirin was the reason

My lisinopril was prescribed for BP. Seems to work for that, as well.

Woodturner's Club meeting this morning, followed by lunch with the same group.  After that, I should be receiving a pen kit and pencil kit, with blanks, that I will be making for my son.  That is, if I don't get involved with a nap, and blow off the kits until tomorrow.  I've been wanting to wade through a SketchUp tutorial disc I got some time ago.  Maybe start that tomorrow, also.

bonus project this morning:  helped my wife clean/degrease/delint the top of the kitchen cabinets.  worst part was nearest the cooktop.  ewwww.....  all better now.

when your white paper towel comes back brown/black....that's not good, although it's good in the sense that that dirt/grease is no longer on the cabinet top.

watch some soccer in a bit.

Not on coumadin, but my baby aspirin has been upped to a full aspirin a day. Seems to have the same basic side effects, but I guess it does it's intended work.
