Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

As for me, I have a whole week off! Kids are on Spring Break and we have plans to see some sights. We'll be heading down to San Diego for a couple day trips, it's only 2 hrs away so we don't need to stay the night down there, and we'll visit some of our favorite places, The Cabrillo National Monument, Balboa Park, possibly the San Diego Zoo, and the beach of course, and we'll visit my old stomping grounds for some great food, but it'll be fun. I'll try to get some shop time in between it all, our kids are growing up so fast, I feel like I need to squeeze what remaining time I have left with them into a few short years anytime I have a day off. Our oldest is back to college, her Spring Break ended last week, so we'll just have our two youngest with us for this week off.

Have a wonderful week ahead all!

Who is behind The Patriot Woodworker?

Of course our Forum Hosts and our Admins are! They run the joint around here, and without them we'd be in a world of hurt. Occasionally though I like to show off my family (the unseen heroes), who has supported my own efforts here on The Patriot Woodworker, with a ton of patience, and understanding for ol Dad.

We take a few pictures once a year at this old picnic bench every Easter Morning after services. We have 17 years worth of images at this exact location in our backyard since we moved into our home, and it has become a family Easter Tradition. My wife and I have been married for 27 years, and we have lived in this home for 17 of those wonderful and at times challenging years.

My very patient family seen below, my eyes look closed, they aren't though, I can actually see through them squinty eyes.:)

I would like to officially and publicly thank my family for allowing Dad to be here, having fun with ya'll. (missing one more dog and a bunny rabbit, couldn't get them to cooperate for the pic)

Finished the drawers for the hardware cabinet. Now the tedious task of sorting hardware and labeling everything. Replaced our old mailbox with a lockable mailbox and worked on our taxes. 2 out of 3 is not bad.

Yikes! I hope you guys are coming out for the better with that.

Just thinking about taxes. Cleaned a spot in my shop for a load of rough sawn Walnut, and Red Alder I pick up this week from an estate sale.  My next project is to close in my router table like I did the drum sander underneath and put DC hook up on it.

I may have to return my woodworker card and cancel my PWW membership. Taking my son to three appointments this week, three or four next week, with no end in sight. He'll be starting chemo on the 13th, and that will keep him inside for the weekend. His log house is nowhere NEAR finished, so I may be taking over as strawboss there. I know NOTHING about log building, so it WILL be interesting! Shop time? What's a shop??

John

Sorry to hear,John about your son, Hope all goes well for him.

We will all know where you are if we don't hear from you, sounds like you will be a busy guy.  Log House sounds like a lot of grunt work to me. Once the structure is up, and dried in, that is when the fun woodworking starts.

Hang in there,

Herb

Hope all works out well with your son. You and your family will be our prayers.

John prayers for your son to come thru this with flying colors. JM that is a beautiful family, but that big guy sure does mess up the picture :). We put up one set of the mahogany shelves at my son's house this afternoon and taking a break till tomorrow . Maybe do some sightseeing now. DIL is still working on the decor.

Son and family was up over the weekend. Planned a day long 4 wheeler ride through the forests but, he had mechanical problems with his trailer. So, we just kicked back and had a nice visit. Had the obligatory ham meal. And, our beautiful DIL brought a big lemon cheesecake.

Today's shop work has been planing down some olive preparatory to using a lock miter bit. I'm a bit paranoid about the process. Got me a Wixey 200 height gauge to insure the thicknesses all match up exactly. Probably won't get to it till maybe Thursday. An old friend of Phyl's from MI is arriving tomorrow. She'll be here till Saturday. Gotta be a good host for a day or two, at least. Then, sneak back to the shop.

John, your son is in my prayers.  Something tells me that you are going to be just the guy to oversee the project.  My week got off with a rousing start today.  Dentist appointment and then a meeting with the local veteran's rep to get some hearing tests done.  I am currently being kid snookered.  I need to build a small cabinet for my daughter and my son just bought a Freddie Mac property across the street from his house.  We started de-constructing it Saturday (HGTV jargon for tearing it down) and it will take a couple months to get it down.  He's the neighborhood hero right now.

Beautiful family John and what a cool tradition you have established. Thanks for sharing them with us!

Kiddos back to school today after spring break last week. Hard to discern spring with 5"+ of snow this morning. Typical week of transporting etc. H.S. tennis season scheduled to start this week but the forecast isn't promising. Plan to meet my brother for lunch Wednesday. We haven't been able to do that in a while. Maybe do some rust hunting after. Friday night is Pinewood Derby races so Gramps has been asked to attend.:P

New era begins this week...Prom week for oldest grand-daughter (her first)..all dress fittings complete^_^, all accessories purchased. Saturday probably will be a good day to find some activity outside until departure time:lol:

Then the real stress begins:unsure:

Not a chance...good try, but you're not getting off that easy here.

Prayers to you, your son and your entire family in the coming days and weeks John. We'll hold the fort down when your absent. You have a far more important calling right now. Just remember to take of yourself also.

@HARO50 we are all with you and your son, John.

I am in a similar predicament as far as getting shop time, but not anywhere near as serious a reason. The Missus and myself are sending prayers your son’s way.

Appears the cat is still questioning it's level of acceptance:ph34r:

Glad to see the move went well and the cabinet is safe and settling in.
