March 16, 20188 yr Popular Post The HUGE Maple Island top is finally in the finishing room. we will get the finish on today and hopefully get it delivered this weekend or first of the week. We we are making a smaller version of the top for a window seat top that will go in the kitchen also We got it glued into sections this morning. My son is working on a Cedar Green egg table. I’m about to glue up the screen door from earlier this week. The work bench has been full and just now got it clear enough to work. So Whats on your Patriot Woodworker agenda this weekend? Love to see all the projects and hear about what you are working on. Whatever you do, have fun and be safe.
March 16, 20188 yr That is one huge island. More like a continent. It really is nice, though. With those seats, that kitchen is going to be a show place. I'm just planing a bunch of walnut, today. Hard work for this old man. But, I'm having a blast.
March 16, 20188 yr Popular Post Had a visitor stop by. Fellow came up from Dayton, OH.....had a few questions about hand tools, chisels, planes. Got a couple of his planes to where they will make shavings like they should. He had to leave a bit early..he had a Doctor's appointment @1400..... Had a lot of fun...
March 16, 20188 yr Not sure what the weekend will bring, yet. It has been a long week at work but I will get out in the shop and do something, even if it isn't right.

March 16, 20188 yr Normal must/should dos. Cub Scout meeting tonight with oldest grandson. Pinewood derby workshop. I heard something about some kind of "Madness" showing simultaneously on four different TV channels...I might take a peek from time-to-time. Winter weather continues to hold us hostage and apply torture so shop time will be nil.
March 16, 20188 yr Popular Post Finally got back to doing some real woodworking for the past year. Since my wife is retiring and we plan on getting our house up for sale come June, we have to get the house ready. A number of years ago I made 2 walls of floor to ceiling oak bookcases out of red oak. I had planned on making cabinet doors and drawers but that did not pan out. So now that we will be selling the house I need to finish the bookcases. Being that oak here in So. California is not in style, we had been advised by Realtors to paint over the oak. That really rubs me the wrong way, but it will make things easier to sell. So I painted everything with a lighter neutral color that should make things easier. I have made up 7 doors (made of red oak for the same grain pattern) and got them all fitted to the bookcase. So now I have to get them all sanded, primed and put on the final paint. I will hope to get the drawers done this weekend.
March 16, 20188 yr Nice job on the doors,Allen, shame having to cover that nice grain. On some houses I built we did a white "wash" on the oak and you could still see the grain thru the finish. Not sure how that is done, Kieth might know. It did look first class though. Herb
March 16, 20188 yr Allen, those are super good looking doors. Way too nice to paint. Good luck in selling the house. Have you selected an area to relocate to? Any projected time frame?
March 16, 20188 yr Popular Post Pretty calm here. I'm building a pair of jewelry boxes for summer stock and planning a trip to Moodyville. I did manage to sell my extra bookcase this week though.

Tami and I spent 2 weeks the end of December and 1st week in January to check out areas in Tennessee and Kentucky. We really liked Bowling Green KY and spent a lot of time driving the area. We will be putting our house up for sale in June or hopefully in the end of May. We have a big 2 story and will be downsizing to a smaller 1 story. With our market values here in So. California and very low inventory we should be able to move it quickly. We will be able to pay cash for a newer 1 story and be debt free.
March 16, 20188 yr Popular Post I have a friend with a bum leg. I am making him a cane for when they let him off the crutches.
