Popular Post Cliff Posted March 12, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted March 12, 2018 some gozillion years ago I was given a twin state Sgt Welsh rotary vein vacuum pump that fell of a truck. No really it fell off the truck & got damaged ( just the belt shroud) but there was an insurance claim and this one was unclaimed so the shipper gave it to me. And a decade or so later I'm finally trying to put it to use. I got a small air tank and welded bungs to it so I can run 1" piping to it. It is the vacuum reservoir in case of power failure. Then mounted it and the pump together around a corner on the other side of a wall and ran 1" copper to the lathe with a parker needle valve and a vacuum gauge and LOOKY MA I can hold a great vacuum and even lower the hold to what ever HG I want with the needle valve . AND When I shut it off it holds the vacuum for a good long time. The reason for the large piping is over a long run ya gotta have a big pipe a small one just doesn't work well HARO50, Cal, p_toad and 4 others 7 Quote

Cliff Posted March 13, 2018 Author Report Posted March 13, 2018 I rather like my vacuum coupling. It's an industrial bit o' kit I got for next to nuthin' on the flea bay. I can go pretty fast - - not mind you that I'd trust vacuum with high RPMs. I welded up a rig to go on the coupling to prevent it from spinning. Ya know multiply those 15 pounds per sq inch really add up to substantial force~!!! I played with pulling that sucker off all through the pressure range and it was unmovable without destroying the bowl way down to a lousy five inches of mercury. Cliff Posted March 14, 2018 Author Report Posted March 14, 2018 (edited) here is a vid of the coupling I took the fixture off that I had on it. the hose seems plenty stiff enough to hold it under power The pipe thread into that aluminum disk is a left hand thread. Hard to find a left hand pipe tap. If you need one I got one you can borrow so long as it won't be used in steel.
