no need...

the XP machines aren't on the net...

they are to run specific softwares that 7 or high won't run..

XP is still running on about 7% of the world's computers. So many dedicated computer applications were written for it. I see it running in auto repair places, veterinary offices and many more places. Unfortunately, many of those places still use it to access the web.

I took sticks advise and sprayed it with wd-40. I sprayed all connections and ports. It operates much slicker now.

GO Harbor Freight and WD-40.

Just a friendly reminder folks, our community software is made to keep up with the latest software for your desktop pc and mobile and laptop devices. If you are running outdated browsers, and or outdated windows or mac software that are no longer supported by their own developers, then we cannot support or make alterations either.

If Microsoft or Mac does not support your software any longer, neither do we. And the same goes for browsers, if they are outdated, then chances are, our forum software is not going to like it very much. :)

We do however look into all reports of slow downs and glitches, just in case.

I'll issue a separate topic in the Bug and Issues Forum, stating that with site performance issue reports such as slowdowns or blackouts etc, you should state with your report what version windows or mac your using, and what browser you are experiencing these issues with, this will help us zero in on the problem much quicker.

Thanks all!

Kill Bill, part 3

too bad they missed him in part 1 and 2...

Here's something that might help:  first, always install updates as soon as they're available.  A lot of them are security related.  Secondly, use the Task Manager to see what's up with the various programs running.  Use Ctrl+Alt+Del (aka "CAD") to invoke the Task Manager, and then look to see what's running and how much it "eats".  Yesterday, I found one program running in 10 separate entries, each using from 1 MB to 478 MB of memory.  Slowed everything down until I stopped each one, then started one iteration of that software alone (it's an app that allows text msg from computer to phone).  I don't understand about 85% of what Task Manager offers, but some things are obvious.  I leave my computer on 24/7 so updates usually install when I'm sleeping, no problem.

My slowdown(s) are MS induced. It is not the first time that EVERYTHING fails to respond due to pending updates. It drove me crazy troubleshooting hardware, software, and possible internal conflicts, which included multiple reboots. Then I realized it always occurred when MS published the monthly updates. I WILL NOT let MS automatically download and install updates. So, this is their way (apparently) to force me to look at the pending updates.

Once I do an UPDATE search, I get a list of pending downloads. I then cull out the ones that are unwelcome/un-needed. Once I download the updates (that are relevant), install, and reboot, then all of a sudden the miracle happens...the computer runs fine.

Apparently, you never experience the throttling because you automatically download the updates. Your choice, but not mine. If you were to turn off the auto update you will eventually experience what I describe above.

Ok so I hit the button toooooo many times. Now who is this new guy who has takes @John Morris identity ? I use win 10 and let it update itself. I stopped using all those cleaning programs when my hard drive failed and the shop I went to did not reccomend any except malwarebytes and Superantispy. Those other cleanup programs are already on the computer or browser to delete and clean and defrag. True I do not do that often enough but do not change the air filter on AC often enough .....trying to do better.....I have been a baaad boy as Lou Costello said.
