Patriot site slow down

Featured Replies

I am having a big slow down with this site. It comes up slow in just about every aspect. I DO NOT have any problem with any other site on the web.

Every so often it happens here, too. But, OK today. Must be sun spots, Russians and/or aliens.

we're good to go here..

is it time to get suspicious or just an omen???

Everything seems OK here...

When is the last time you cleared your cache Ron?

It gets slow on me, but I continue (maybe incorrectly) to blame it on my IP connection...which is fairly slow.

run CCleaner...

Windows just did a big update, which included some new functions on the screen*.  Depending on other settings on your computer, this might give different delays on different sites.

*some kind of people connection.  I hate people.  I hate connections.  Turned them off.  Both 'em.

I can always tell when MS has a bunch of updates that they want you to download. Web pages won't respond, typing lags, refresh rates hit the basement, links won't open. Once you check for the updates you can either hide or install the wanted updates and reboot. Once you do that everything goes back to normal. I don't give them free reign to just download and install updates. So, they get back at me by causing the slowdowns until I deal with the updates.

I love MS!

Mostly the slowdowns occur because the system is busy "downloading" the updates from MS. You can change the settings to prevent this from happening. The first link discusses the problem. The second link provides several options for changing how windows will handle  downloads/updates-

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with W 10, I loaded 8.1 onto my desktop and stayed away from W 10 when I put it together. I have my settings to only notify me of updates. I NEVER let MS download and install without my approval. W 10 doesn't allow you this luxury no matter what MS say to the contrary.

However, I can always tell when there are multiple updates. The minute I start seeing slowdowns, crashes, and response failures then I know it is time to see what MS UPDATE is trying to force on me. Once I install the (desired) updates, then and only then do the performance issues disappear.

I did the "number 4/5" mentioned in the second link. That worked for me. Just recently undid it to be able to get the Fall Creators update.

Just a personal thing- I hated WIndows 8 almost as much as Windows ME

stuck in a rut w/ XP and W7...

Only Win 7 for me , updates shut off, no updates unless my IT guy approves them.

Herb

Sometimes when I know windows needs to do updates I just let my puter run and do the updates with nothing else running.
